Ten days after narrowly defeating a bill to provide free school lunches to low-income K-12 students, the North Dakota Senate approved legislation to increase the amount of money lawmakers and other state employees receive in meal reimbursements.
To be fair, feeding kids would have cost $6 million, and increasing the per diem is only expected to cost $1 million. So if a choice between the two was to be made, it was by far the more fiscally conservative position to feed politicians from the public trough.
