I am a little surprised that there has not been a thread about The Jesus Prayer.

My practice of it seem to go in on/off cycles.

I am interested in hearing about the experience of other who practice it.

Which form do you use? How long have you been practicing? How consistently?

Thanks.

I use the Jesus Prayer routinely as a form of confession and intercession. I will say, “have mercy on me a sinner” and then “have mercy on us.” My basic way is to say these & then the golden rule ( Matthew 7:12), the Lord’s great commandments ( Matthew 22:36-40), the Lord of the harvest ( Matthew 9:36-38) & then pray the daily Trisagion prayers ( which includes the Lord’s Prayer).

In addition to the this daily prayer of mornings, mid day, & evening prayer, I will pray the variations of the Jesus prayer at random other times. These other times (for ex.) on a walk after work etc. I do not use monastic techniques but that is just my personal preference.

"Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God have mercy upon me, a sinner. "

Calling God is very powerful, and the name of God scares demons.

Saying it continuosly for longer periods of time, it will reveal the movements of the mind.

Also, there is 'hesychasm', a monastic tradition that uses the "Jesus Prayer". Hesychasm means "The mystery of holy peace/silence".
