The revelation of classified documents found in a private office belonging to Joe Biden in between his time as vice president and president has energized the new House Republican majority, which was already poised to launch a multitude of Biden administration-related investigations.

Also...

In other news
"I plan to launch an oversight committee pertaining to people drinking too much"

Also

"I'm hosting a kegger at my club house, first 5 beers are free!"

Yeah.

All snark aside, I think this particular set of stories highlights some "teachable moments" for both sides of the political fence.

1) to the Democrats, If you're going to lambaste a person for doing "thing XYZ", then you should be doubly sure your own guy hasn't done XYZ

The Democrats knew Trump did it...because they all do.

2) to the Republicans, if you're going to complain about "weaponization of the government against our side", it's probably best to refrain from bragging about your attempt to do that exact thing withing the first 10 minutes of gaining some power.

Well...the Biden team volunteered this information. Obviously, it's because they lost control of Congress....otherwise I don't think they would have brought it up.

Both present a "a little egg on one's face" scenario.

Sure.

Given how goofy things have gotten, if some 3rd party candidates/independents can't make a decent showing of it in the next few election cycles, then maybe it is time to just concede and admit that we're doomed to a two-party system forever and this is as good as it's gonna get.

I don't think we can get a 3rd party candidate because frankly, the American people have no idea what a good one looks like.

2016 was the 3rd party candidate race....we only accept them when they come with one of the 2 party labels. The 3rd party candidates are the extremists of both parties. It's weird though. On the right side of the aisle....they showed up because the right hadn't changed at all in the past 30 years or so. On the left....they literally started showing up because they decided to impose an ideologically rigid narrative and it resulted in the loss of intellectuals, and the gain of radicals.

You can disagree about the loss of intellectuals if you want....but I'm not saying that the right is any better. They didn't suddenly gain intellectuals....they gained populists.

The left basically did the same. In the absence of a real option....they chose emotionally driven ideologues. They're passionate, dumb, and intent on driving a wedge in the establishment party. It's oddly similar on both sides.

The Democrats keep saying that this is not as bad as what President Trump did. We knew about Trump's documents in May 2021, 4 months after leaving the White House. Biden was able to keep his stash of classified documents hidden from the American people for over 5 YEARS.

Actually, unless you work either for Trump or the National Archives and are using "we" in reference to your workplace, no "we" didn't. NARA first went public in Feb of 2022, after they had been trying to get documents from former Pres. Trump for over 6 months. Most of "we" didn't really learn about the documents until the FBI searched Mar-A-Lago, since that is when it really hit the news.
Trump's documents were in a central location with Secret Service protection. Biden's stash of contraband classified documents were hidden all over the place with no security what so ever.

Again, not completely true. To get the search warrant, it has been reported that the FBI used a confidential informant that had been (possibly worked) at Mar-A-Lago and saw the Classified documents, they were being protected by no one. Beyond that, in September of 2022, Trump's lawyers turned classified documents over to NARA that had been found in a storage locker -- so Trump's documents have also been found in multiple locations, including locations not covered by the Secret Service.
As soon as the Trump documents were discovered "missing" , it made the news. When Biden's security violations were uncovered, they were kept from the news and people until after the midterm elections to ensure the Democrats could steal as many seats as possible.

Yep, nothing like what Trump did.
And, again, there was no coverage when the Trump documents were discovered "missing," the news coverage only came after Trump turned over some documents but NARA determined most documents remained missing. It is worth noting the FBI took more documents than the Trump team turned over, even after Trump's lawyers claimed they had turned over all documents to NARA.
