Yeah.
All snark aside, I think this particular set of stories highlights some "teachable moments" for both sides of the political fence.
1) to the Democrats, If you're going to lambaste a person for doing "thing XYZ", then you should be doubly sure your own guy hasn't done XYZ
The Democrats knew Trump did it...because they all do.
2) to the Republicans, if you're going to complain about "weaponization of the government against our side", it's probably best to refrain from bragging about your attempt to do that exact thing withing the first 10 minutes of gaining some power.
Well...the Biden team volunteered this information. Obviously, it's because they lost control of Congress....otherwise I don't think they would have brought it up.
Both present a "a little egg on one's face" scenario.
Sure.
Given how goofy things have gotten, if some 3rd party candidates/independents can't make a decent showing of it in the next few election cycles, then maybe it is time to just concede and admit that we're doomed to a two-party system forever and this is as good as it's gonna get.
I don't think we can get a 3rd party candidate because frankly, the American people have no idea what a good one looks like.
2016 was the 3rd party candidate race....we only accept them when they come with one of the 2 party labels. The 3rd party candidates are the extremists of both parties. It's weird though. On the right side of the aisle....they showed up because the right hadn't changed at all in the past 30 years or so. On the left....they literally started showing up because they decided to impose an ideologically rigid narrative and it resulted in the loss of intellectuals, and the gain of radicals.
You can disagree about the loss of intellectuals if you want....but I'm not saying that the right is any better. They didn't suddenly gain intellectuals....they gained populists.
The left basically did the same. In the absence of a real option....they chose emotionally driven ideologues. They're passionate, dumb, and intent on driving a wedge in the establishment party. It's oddly similar on both sides.
