When I was a kid, Hamtramck was almost 100% Polish and Ukrainian; then in the late 1970s, GM pulled the plug on all the automobile factories they had down there, and the Poles and Ukrainians all left for greener pastures. The Muslims started moving in during the mid-80s. Now I doubt you could find a Polish person in the entire city.

You used to hear this played a lot on polka fests and whatnot on the radio....

Animal sacrifice for religious purposes is legal in the state of Michigan as it is elsewhere in the US, it's nothing new. The city of Hamtramck had a ban on the practice which was unconstitutional, and this is the reason they voted to repeal the ban and allow religious animal sacrifices.

Here is the Michigan state law as it is written:

HUMANE SLAUGHTER OF LIVESTOCK

Act 163 of 1962

AN ACT to require humane methods of slaughter of livestock; to prescribe the powers and duties of the director of agriculture; and to fix penalties for violations.

287.554 Ritual slaughter.

Sec. 4.

Nothing in this act shall be construed to prohibit, abridge or in any way hinder the religious freedom of any person or group. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, ritual handling or other preparation of livestock for ritual slaughter are exempted from the terms of this act. For the purposes of this section, the term “ritual slaughter” means slaughter in accordance with subsection (g) of section 1. To conform with the provisions and intent of this act, animals not previously rendered insensible, and to be slaughtered in accordance with a humane method as defined in subsection (g) of section 1, shall be slaughtered immediately following total suspension from the floor.

287.551 Humane slaughter of livestock;

Sec. 1.

(g) “Humane method” means either: (1) A method whereby the animal is rendered insensible to pain by mechanical, electrical, chemical or other means that is rapid and effective, before being shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast or cut; or (2) a method in accordance with ritual requirements of any religious faith whereby the animal suffers loss of consciousness by anemia of the brain caused by the simultaneous and instantaneous severance of the carotid arteries with a sharp instrument.

City of Hamtramck's new regulations on animal sacrifice:

§ 90.030 RELIGIOUS ANIMAL SACRIFICE

(A) Any person wishing to conduct an animal sacrifice for religious purposes must notify the City by reporting such
intention to the Clerk’s Office at least one week prior to the date of animal sacrifice;

(1) Such person shall provide the exact date and time of animal sacrifice to the City and shall schedule a time
for the City to conduct post sacrifice inspection of the site to ensure, in the opinion of the inspector, that the
area was properly cleaned and sanitized after the sacrifice was concluded.

(2) Such person shall pay the City a fee, as set by city council annually, for the sanitation inspection. Such fee
shall be paid at the time when such person informs the City of the sacrifice as required above.

(B) Any and all actions necessary to restrict the act of sacrifice from public viewing must be taken without
exception. The public, for the purposes of this subsection, shall be defined as any individual who has not formally
indicated their intention to view the animal sacrifice.

Which 'religion' and why?
Things are changing a lot in this country.

I wish we'd go back to our roots before other things take root.

Things are changing a lot in this country.

I can see why this is alarming and I personally am actually alarmed at it but when you look at it from a legal standpoint how is it any different than killing an animal you own if you live on a farm?

This kind of feels like one of those small bricks that you look back on like the re-definition of marriage. From a union of one flesh (man & woman) that transcends solely love not only in the love felt between two partners but in commitment & duty to one another and The God who brings the two people together, to the new definition of love is love which allows for Polygamy, Homosexual Marriage, Divorce when the feeling fades & etc. It will be interesting to see if this will be a nothingburger or if it's a trend that allows for a certain nation in the Middle East that's waiting on a third temple to re-instute sacrifice.

I think this may be whats happening, but I could be wrong on this. I only researched a little bit on it on the internet.

It has to do, I think, with being able to eat again after a month of fasting. this one month of fasting until sundown every day is called Ramadan.

When the one month is over, there is a Feast of Sacrifice, in which animals are killed in order to be eaten in feasts or celebrations, with the food to be shared with others such as the poor.

The animal is not the sacrifice, but the sacrifice is to be ones will, given over to Allah, as told in their version of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son for God.

In other words, to celebrate the giving over of ones self so completely, they are willing to kill their own son like Abraham, if asked to do so, by God.

Instead, Abraham was stopped, and a ram provided instead.

Thus, the reason behind the killing of animals and the eating of them in a feast celebration, to show how one is willing to follow Allah's will, like Abraham was willing to follow God's will.

The sacrifice is symbolic of ones willingness to follow the will of Allah, or to sacrifice ones selfish desires.

In our Holy bible, it was a story in Genesis about God testing Abraham to see if he respected and obeyed God's will.

Something like this is what I found doing a basic google search.
