Hello all,

How was the Eucharist received in the East during the early Church?

It is my understanding, in the WEST, it was received on the hand, and the chalice was directly drank from.

When did the liturgical spoon become common?

Thanks in advance

to my understanding, that’s how it was in the East as well. not sure exactly when the spoon became common, only that it was to combat abuses.

no problem. the original way of receiving is still done by the clergy, and apparently some tribal leaders in Alaska, who still perform the Liturgical role of the emperor.

A priest once told me that a few people would not consume the bread but would take it home as sort of a souvenir, or even to use it at home for something akin to RC adoration. Is that the abuses you're talking about?

that and treating like a superstitious talisman or pagan magic, doing experiments on it, etc.
