Looks like the denomination is going to shatter.....

A sad time to live in indeed. I have nothing against the homosexual community, however I will not inch from the biblical teachings. My personal view on the situation across the western world is that modern day politics cause this. Pressure to confirm to secular morality and standards have diluted the resolve to remain true to God's teachings. In order to not offend and look bad to society many western churches compromised on holiness. You don't see this kind of homosexual schism in churches in other parts of the world.

This is not to say we turn away homosexuals from the church, in fact we must embrace them more. Guide them to a Godlier living. No mocking, no judgement and no finger pointing. Despite falling short (everyone does), they can still come into the Presence of the Lord.

It's shattered. Just in slow motion. Sad to see, but when they can't remain faithful as a whole then something has to happen. And congregations leaving makes the most sense to me.

In order for a Church body to collectively work together there has to be unity in Christ. When sin enters in that body chaos happens. Unless there is a turning away from sin and regeneration that person cannot enter into the church body.

That is a very interesting point, but in making it, you have lost sight of something else.
Whenever the focus goes off Christ, the head has to turn away from Him.
It is possible to become part of a group, but the moment that focus shifts to being a group, rather than being like Christ, that's when the division starts.

It's my understanding that a few years ago, they had a worldwide conference to vote on whether they should go progressive or stick to their traditional teachings. Most of the churches in the Western world voted to go progressive, whereas others located throughout the world voted to stick to traditional teachings and policies. Even though the traditionalists won, it was decided that they would support splitting over the issue, including financial support, while they get started. It would basically be an offshoot of the UMC and still associated with them. I thought it was the progressives that were going to keep the UMC designation but I could be wrong and things could have changed since. Since then, I've seen several churches that were UMC in my local area remove UMC from their name, although I am not familiar with those specific churches teaching and whether they were traditional or progressive.

Chances are good that they returned to being a traditional Methodist Church.

The liberal faction is keeping the UMC and the conservative faction is becoming the newly created Global Methodist Church per the article.
