Someone who can speak freely into your life, who has greater wisdom than you do.

I have two, one is my pastor and the other a close friend for more than 25 years. We get together by phone or in person monthly.

I have found it to have great benefits.

Yes, I have a mentor, His Name is Jesus. He has been speaking to me and through me for quite a long time now, and yet who can bare it. Enjoy your trip!

Just to clarify - we all have Christ - but Paul was a mentor to many, including Timothy, Titus, etc. He was a father in the faith. Fathers play an important role in our lives. I would encourage you to build relationships and find a father.

That is why I specified mentor/pastor

No and no. I currently do not attend church. I get my kids on the weekends and their mom doesn't want them going to my church. She doesn't want them going to any type of liturgical church, so we don't go to church as liturgical churches are the only ones I will attend.

So no pastor and no mentor, but I'm doing well without them.

I have my pastor from before I moved going back about 15 years, my older cousin who's a pastor, and my current pastor. I don't reach out to my old pastor and cousin like I used to, probably because I'm 60 now and have outgrown the need of a mentor. They're still great friends though and good people to bounce ideas off of.

I used to have a mentor, a great help for about 30 years. One previous pastor prayed that God would give me a mentor. I was not at all impressed. However, my friend and mentor was the greatest influence in my life. He passed away about 11 years ago. He laid a lasting foundation in my life and I will be eternally grateful.

Yes. My pastor is also a friend, which means he knows me well enough to speak into my life. His father is also trying to cultivate a friendship with me. I can't really say that I have another active mentor at this time, but I'm not opposed to one either. I'll be 60 in a few months, so some of my prior mentors have graduated.

Just from my perspective alone, I am 63 and the need for a mentor grows yearly. Having someone who I respect and has greater wisdom than I do is incredibly helpful. That is just my opinion.

No, sadly. There is a pastor at the church I go to. He's been a youth minister for a couple decades, but this is his first time as the lead pastor. His faith seems strong and he's big on encouragement, but doesn't seem to have a strong grasp of basic Christian doctrines. I asked if he was trinitarian and he didn't know what that was.

Has he been to seminary? It seems odd that the topic of the Trinity wouldn't have come up during his schooling.

Hello John! I met a lot of Pentecostals and Charismatics back in the day who were 'oneness'. There can be indications, for example at a Baptism the wording used is not in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God Bless :)

Thank you, though I did know that. Once I explained the two positions without giving away which I was, he was quick to say that he is trinitarian. Well, he said,"I'm that one." I really like the guy. LOL

Oneness focus too much on water baptism in the name of Jesus.

I was immersed that way and wouldn't change a thing, but I'm certainly not oneness, nor have I ever been.

I have one. He is a well-known writer/theologian. He was my pastor for years. and retired. We still meet now and then and he speaks truth into my life.
