Oh yes... that is expected.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” I John 1:9.
Notice it says HE is faithful. He will do it.
Notice it says He is just. It is a matter of justice for Him. He will do it!
The next chapter continues in that line:

1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
An advocate is like a lawyer. He pleads your case. Jesus is your savior and your advocate!
