Think about how 'Shock and Awe' was supposed to win the hearts and minds of the people of Iraq.

Apply a bit of the time-honored do-unto-others. For example, how would you feel if the city you lived in was bombed, your electricity was out for a long time, and your financial system was in ruins?

What might a woman do (a real one)? She might ask what the actual problem was. Saddam was a big problem. OK, ask what they would like done and then plan out how to do it with the minimum of pain - the minimum.

Not for a big macho 'now we have restored our reputation after Vietnam'. Sure it boosted G. W. Bush's ratings from 55 to almost 90 percent and got him a second term, but it wasn't very nice or considerate.

Addendum Sep 30 2021: we will be out of Iraq in 6 months

Certainly, we need to reduce and change our approach to helping other countries solve their problems.

We need to think about how we would like it if another country decided our President was defective, and therefore we need to be bombed and invaded.

We also need to think in a more compassionate way about challenges inside the country.

For example, the economic principle the US operates under is Neoliberalism expressed by Milton Friedman:

Title: A Friedman doctrine - The Social Responsibility Of Business Is to Increase Its Profits

Increasing profits was often done by shutting manufacturing in the US and moving it somewhere cheaper.

Initially, that impacts the workforce who lose their jobs and incomes.

It also harms the balance of payments (Current Account) as money is now going out of the country to buy products from another country, and a trade debt starts to grow.

Continue this year after year and you reach the economic situation we had arrived at in 2001 with a yearly deficit of 400 billion dollars.

Transferring the money that previously went into wages to the workforce, into profits for the company executive bonuses and shareholders makes the poor (well, they weren't poor before their jobs got outsourced), poorer and the rich richer, as most of us are well aware has been going on.

Income inequality grows and a sense of pointlessness and depression affects an increasing number of people.

Note that the rule we followed from Reagan onward: 'The Social Responsibility Of Business Is to Increase Its Profits' doesn't include any actual social responsibility to anyone at all. It's just about increasing profit for a limited range of people and has no concern for the nation or its people.

We've moved so much production out of the country that now this country doesn't have the biggest manufacturing capacity, and for that, we blame the Chinese... (?).

AND our healthcare system costs twice as much as anyone else's on a per person percent of GDP basis on which most countries are around 10% and we are at 17.7%, and with the lowest life expectancy - only a man could come up with an idea that stupid. I just said that to shame people; Sen. Warren has an even worse plan. Maybe we can blame that one on the Chinese as well.

As for our mental health, well what do you expect with so much factory work gone elsewhere and him kicking around the house with nothing to do?

Public Works Program? It's been done before, and it worked. Sounds like socialism, too friendly, too nice, better to go down fighting, that's the man's way to do it.

A whole lot of "details" getting shunned just then as for why we went to Iraq.

Well hello word salad.

I recall the actual 'Mork' being more coherent, and vast portions of his dialog was ad libbed by Robin Williams while he was high.

Lol fairness. Power makes the rules. The only fairness that governments care about is creating the illusion of just enough fairness to be able to avoid a revolution. The only true goal of government is to maintain (and increase) their own power.

I'm sorry, but I can't figure out for the life of me what you're trying to say or what point you're attempting to make.

I think it’s a little late for that.
Hindsight is always 20/20, no matter what situation you’re talking about.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
But didn’t.
So, learn and move on.

I remember the “hearts and minds” vs some woman whose door got kicked in was an issue back in the day. It’s not new.
