Not really surprising that those not vaccinating would also be less likely to take other precautions.

Those people are just becoming willing incubators for the coronavirus. :/
Their behaviour makes a lot more sense if you imagine them to be nurgle cultists.

The delta variant is spreading across the US. My small town is a hot spot for it. Folks haven't really changed how they do things across the US, just as it is in my little town.

Unvaccinated Americans not changing their behavior, report finds

Thankfully my oldest daughter's are finally coming around... I had to do a little arm-twisting, because one's boyfriend likes to read radical extremist websites, so he has her brainwashed, but I think she's going to get it done because of my insistence.

The other one, along with her husband got their first shots yesterday... Finally.

I am fully vaccinated and I hope that everyone who is eligible gets vaccinated too. However I don't think this tribal trash talking helps matters at all. If anything it encourages those who are hesitant to harden their position even more. It would be better if we tried to empathize with their doubts and try to allay those doubts with reason.

I'm focusing on the people in my family... I figure that with family, I might stand a better chance than with people I don't physically know.

“Unvaccinated Americans believe the vaccines are more dangerous than Covid-19”. First sentence. And it’s not true. While I’m sure it does apply to some, it’s not universal. I’d say that it’s way more nuanced than that. So based on that misinformation, I can’t see any reason to read further as it’s obvious a biased article.

It's not misinformation. They're just reporting on the findings of the study:

Three-fourths of unvaccinated adults, including nine in ten of those who say they will “definitely not” get the vaccine, say they are “not worried” about getting seriously sick from the virus, less than half say they are worried about the Delta variant worsening the pandemic, more than half (including 75% of “definitely not”) say getting vaccinated is a bigger risk to their health than getting infected with coronavirus,

That sentence is based directly on the findings of the study:

Three-fourths of unvaccinated adults, including nine in ten of those who say they will “definitely not” get the vaccine, say they are “not worried” about getting seriously sick from the virus, less than half say they are worried about the Delta variant worsening the pandemic, more than half (including 75% of “definitely not”) say getting vaccinated is a bigger risk to their health than getting infected with coronavirus,

Far from being misinformation, this just seems to be representative of the views of most of the unvaccinated.

It still misrepresented the data. But it did play well with the intended audience. So a win for NBC.

And you don't feel that forming a conclusion based upon the opening sentence of a report is misrepresenting the data? Incredible. Well, worse than that really, but incredible will suffice, though best said with a French accent.

The information is all there. How much more reason do you want?

Part of the problem are the information sources on "their side" (for lack of a better term) spreading unwarranted doubt and misinformation. As far as I understand the psychology, empathy is important, but reason isn't as important as you'd think/hope.

They didn't misrepresent the data, they just rounded up or described the majority of the group. According to the study, 53% of Total Unvaccinated saw the vaccine as a bigger risk while another 11% were unsure.

It's a generalization; I don't know if I'd characterize it as misrepresentation.

But if it's enough for you to dismiss the article/study, oh well. Not much we can do about that.

I favor the vaccinations, but there is no doubt about what has caused resistance. The CDC changes its mind almost daily. Fauci does the same and has been revealed as having a private agenda in all of this. The most outspoken of the Democratic governors have violated their own masking and "no large gatherings" declarations. And so on.

Right or wrong, it would be contrary to human nature for the public not to be skeptical after the people who are pushing for more and more controls over the populace turn out to have "clay feet" themselves! if we are looking to blame someone...there you go!

"Idiot boyfriend" is a term I have used a time or two, having daughters.

Short of strict censorship, what do you suggest be done about the misinformation? We have already seen how attempts at censorship have provided further ammunition to agents of disinformation that something nefarious is going on. I think the only solution is to counter misinformation with fact checking and with appeals to reason on the part of the misled. Emotional appeals might work too, provided they are based in reason. It is tempting to overcorrect the misinformation with poorly-supported data. But that only loses credibility. So we need to state only what we are sure is true and be honest about what we don't know.

"Misinformation" is merely the buzzword of the moment that provides a justification for anything the authorities want to do. The word itself doesn't say anything specific, so it's perfect for that purpose.

We've already noted that the best known administrators and elected officials who are pushing for more and more controls over the people, and who say it's necessary, don't actually believe it themselves, so....

I'm sure the host of liars and cranks on the conservative side pushing all manner of garbage had nothing to do with it.
