That's just not true. There's always nuance that extremists refuse to consider. Extremes feed off each other. You need the extremes of your opponent to validate your own extreme position. Ironically, you support each other and could not survive without each other. That means part of your identity depends on the existence of your opponent. Strange bed-fellows, to be sure. If you want to strip the opponent of power become indifferent to what others do in bed. Live at peace with others, and this you can do by letting them live as they see fit. It's easy! But, no, instead you feed the fire with your own outrage.

As far as cakes go, I feel for the guy. No one should be threatened. He is doing what he thinks is right. I support that, but also recognize that the culture has changed. He quit making wedding cakes, which is good since he knows he can't make them for everyone. I don't see him as some kind of hero. He's just someone who had to adjust to situations outside of his control, and do so in such a way that accords with his own conscience. That's not heroic. It's the human predicament. We all have to do that.

I don't think we, as Christians, should be conforming to cultural "norms" or siding with them.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Timothy 3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth... ...But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

I'm privy to the tactics of certain groups and how they attempt to utilize shaming and attacks against individuals who go against the grain, or stick to their convictions against all opposition.

We're seeing it much more now.

They're implementing Marxist concepts in schools. Teaching children in Kindergarten sex education and critical race theory. And I'm seeing more and more Christians cave to the attacks of the world, either through weakness or ignorance.

What makes it so nefarious is that it's all done through the guise of well-intended ideas. Like yeah, racism is bad. Harassing or harming people for being gay is bad. But now we're going towards this other extreme, of teaching black children they can't get ahead in life because white people are holding them back. So, advocating a more acceptable form of racism.

Or teaching that the high divorce rate of straight marriages indicates that heterosexual relationships are being phased out of existence, and that everyone should be queer, and in fact being queer is superior, and the nuclear family should be destroyed to pave the way for a more enlightened, progressive kind of family dynamic.

This isn't a conspiracy theory, this is real dialogue that I've heard from the mouths of these people.

Be prepared to practice what you preach. Be prepared to stand alone, set apart, being ostracized from society, or even from your own family. It's about to get real.

How many of us would have the courage and backbone that this man has had for over 9 years????

I believe these kinds of tests will come to all of us....and how we deal with them will determine WHO'S SIDE we are on. There are only two sides in this world....and on issues such as this, there is NO FENCE to sit on.

Jack Phillips reveals abuse, vandalism and death threats after he refused to make gay wedding cake

This happened a few years ago in Washington State, when a Florist for many years sold flowers to a homosexual couple for their marriage, but refused to go to the wedding place and do decorations as she had done at times for some friends. She was sued and the State fined her a heavy amount. Local court upheld the State. She appealed, and just recently the Supreme Court refused to hear the matter so now she is being put out of business and in heavy debt. Don't cross the politicians and expect to get justice, it appears.

I thought about your comment and contemplated how I'd respond in similar circumstances. Androgynous fashion is a growing sector. It isn't my forte but what would I do if the client was a man and the garment was something a woman would wear? Is there a historical precedent? I could reference earlier times when items were similar. But there's a bigger issue at hand.

I may be the lone opportunity he has to hear the gospel. Especially if he's a public figure. What's my responsibility? Love. I can build a bridge or destroy the chance to plant a seed. Few come to faith through one person. There's many hands on deck. Maybe we'll have a chance to talk about several things. Including God. :)

That's a great way of looking at it, I think. I realize some folks would balk at such a prospect because they don't want to enable what they see as sin. I understand. But it is an opportunity to insert grace and love into a situation that will happen with or without them. Why not bring more grace and love into it? At the end of the day it's a cake or a garment, which even if done expertly is still a cake or garment. What really matters? As you said: Love.
