After a lifetime of shunning pork and bacon, when I became a Christian it was only a matter of time before I would have to see what all the fuss was about.

The lights were out. I was nestled in one of the many sleeping bags scattered on the floor of the prayer hall. Some of the men from our mosque in Raleigh were hosting a sleepover for us Muslim boys. It was a Friday during Ramadan so in a few hours they’d be waking us up for breakfast (which, of course, wouldn’t have any bacon), followed by Fajr (dawn) prayers.

Our instructors began walking up and down between the sleeping bags. They held flashlights and I watched the bulbs move about like bumblebees flying from one flower to the next. They wanted to make sure none of us boys were lying down on our stomachs. Some hadith had recorded it that Muhammad always slept on his back, so we were obviously supposed to do likewise. I wondered, even at thirteen, how on earth a detail like that had any bearing over good and evil.

lol my ex-wife use to wonder about stuff like that when she lived in Turkey as a Campus Crusade missionary. You could often smell the spices and other scents of neighbors cooking in the Istanbul apartment complex area especially during the warm months when people opened their windows etc. When she left Turkey to go on a conference or to renew her visa etc. she would often buy bacon in Greece, Cyprus etc. and bring it back to cook and wondered how the Muslim neighbors thought about the smokey goodness wafting through their window...

I tried bacon once, I actually didn't like it, but I like pepperoni on a pizza.

You said "what" now?! Bacon's just sooo ridicolusly good! Its THE one snack I could not do without. Wars will be fought over bacon if those vegan vaccos ever succeed to bannish meat alltogether. At least I know id go to war over it.

I actually support those who will go to war to keep bacon lol. It's their right to eat it.
