AFFIRMATION OF OUR FAITH
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. (1 John 4:15, NIV)
The fact that Jesus is the Son of God, that he took on humanity and purchased Redemption for all mankind is the foundation of our faith. Just as “foundational” are the implications arising from the “acknowledgement” of that truth.
By the grace of God we come to understand that he has given us everything we need to live a godly life (2 Peter 1:3), made us able to “participate in the Divine Nature” (2 Peter 1:4), that he is progressively transforming us into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18), that he is working within us “to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13), that Jesus is living his life in us (Galatians 2:20), he has granted us the gift of his righteousness giving us the legal right to approach the throne of grace and find help in our time of need (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:16), and everything else that we will ever need.
One of the great drives within human nature is the urge to control the circumstances and the environment in which we live. Faith is the relinquishing this urge and learning to place our dependence upon our Lord. Our faith grows as the reality of the glory and power of what Jesus has purchased for us by the cross dawns upon our consciousness and becomes our daily experience.
It is at this point that the struggle in which we are involved is at its most fierce (Ephesians 6:10‑18). This is where the battle lines are drawn. Teaching that does not emphasize these truths leaves us spiritually impoverished. Teaching that diminishes our understanding of these provisions is of Satan.
