Stars and Stripes, the newspaper that has been a lifeline and a voice for American troops since the Civil War. The memo orders the publisher of the news organization (which now publishes online as well as in print) to present a plan that “dissolves the Stars and Stripes” by Sept. 15 including "specific timeline for vacating government owned/leased space worldwide.”

That’ll save a bundle, I’ll bet.

The article failed to say if it was part of larger cuts. The government is going to have to start cutting a lot of programs soon. They can't keep up this massive spending without revenue coming in.

I suspect the move came because S&S hasn’t show complete abasement due the current C-i-C, not to save money as my earlier sarcasm was apparently missed.

If you had checked the article, you'd notice the savings was only $15.6 million -- a drop in the bucket of the $721 billion defense budget. Having served overseas, I know the importance the Stars & Stripes serves for those stationed overseas, how it helps provide a real connection to what is happening at "home," in particular the news that military members are interested in.

This is not a good way to reduce the defense budget. Not only does it not provide any significant savings, it serves to important a purpose for our troops serving overseas -- particularly in areas where they have no other real source of news (no Internet service).

The article said that Congress, which controls the pursestrings, specifically restored the funding.

Donald is diverting the funds for his folly wall.

...I agree. Cut something significant such as a major contract (F-35 for example). That is, if they are really serious....

In 2017, the military spent 41.6 million dollars on Viagra. Just as a comparison...

A single F-35A (the cheapest version of the F-35) costs more then 5 times what Stars and Stripes gets per year.

Sell your belongings and buy a sword. Jesus already told us we need to protect ourselves.

I'm not sure where you got that out my post (are you perhaps assuming something I did not write?).

The annual budget for the Stars and Stripes is 15 million dollars.
DOD budget proposal cuts all funding to Stars and Stripes; lawmakers, others back news organization

A 2017 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report put the total “sustainment” cost of the F- 35 program – the cost to own and operate the entire F-35 fleet over its expected 60-year lifetime – at $1.12 trillion dollars.

We can have an effective national defense without spending that kind of money on a plane that took years to be "mission ready."

Does anyone read their own links - jeeze!

Very first line:

(UPDATE: Hours after this column was published, the president announced via Twitter that he's reversing the decision to defund the Stars and Stripes.)

Golly gee - a president who listens and then changes his mind after hearing feedback is now a bad thing? But hey, it helps the left narrative, so let's just ignore that part and criticize as much as we can.

Yes, your president is not just a moron, he is indecisive moron. If he gets too much backlash, he will change his mind.

Three questions, because I think the premise is ludicrous -

First: What fighter is in operation for 60 years? Any fighters from 1960 still in active duty. (that should send some internet experts to google)?

Second: What advanced fighter has not taken years to become mission ready?

Third - you know the difference between maintaining a newspaper and a fighter jet?
One is used in combat and the other is used to wrap old fish when you're done with it.
