The Bible says unless a person believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour they are separated from God.

How exactly does this faith in Christ come about, from scripture. "Soul winners" will knock on people's door or go out street preaching the message "believe in Jesus" and I agree faith is needed. The question is: How do we do that? Specifically how can a lost person get faith in Jesus?

Romans 1:17
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

You must meet God by His servants.

That scripture says "live by faith" meaning code of conduct for the saints, I am asking how we get faith to begin with.

No, I don't think I was regenerated before asking God for the Spirit.

Ok so is it possible your testimony could be married up with scripture? It is important our beliefs can be found within the word of God.

How are you reading the "faith to faith" portion?
As having none or as small as a mustard seed?

He's talking to Christians, this is not a message to the lost how to get saved:

Romans 1:7
To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:

Well, according to Luke 11:13 and more verses it makes perfect sense to ask and receive.

Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

So an evil sinful person is just going to randomly turn from their transgression, lay down their weapons of sin and corruption and surrender to a holy God who they have never seen? That makes ''perfect sense'' to you?

I didn't 'just' do it.

I came across Bible verses, believed them, so had a little bit of belief then, and started seeking. For two weeks straight, before asking God for the Holy Spirit.

It's a gift from God.

The best description of salvation is in the story of Lydia in Acts...

One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. Acts of the Apostles 16:14

Paul the Apostle was moved to preach concerning salvation, but it still required God to "open her heart to respond."

Faith itself is a gift.

Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus is the author and perfecter of faith meaning all faith within the one who believes was authored by Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:29 says it’s been “granted” unto us to believe in Jesus Christ. And Acts of the Apostles 3:16 says all faith in Christ is faith that has come from and through Christ. So, all faith in Christ originates in Christ Himself. He must grant this faith, and He grants it to those who have been chosen by God from before the foundation of the world. Second Peter 1:1 also says faith must be given..

How Is Faith a Gift? — Ask Ligonier

If you believe, it has been given you. If you have doubts, ask God to make your faith sure, or perfect it.. Mark 9:24

I was once a Muslim, reasonably devout even... today, I'm a saved child of the living God. For God nothing is impossible.

My goal is not to make anyone doubt their salvation,so let's just assume your name is in the book of life. :)

So reading bible verses is what convinced you god existed and how you got saved? Is this correct?

I wouldn't say that. I believed those verses but wasn't saved by that. I believe I was saved when I received the Holy Spirit. Without it we are none of His according to Romans 8:9.

I've found that this is literally true -- it works just as it says:

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

As Christ explained (to us all!) in Mark chapter 4, the Word is the seed, that sprouts into faith. ( I suggest to read the full chapter)

As He tells us in this chapter, we don't know how and when the seed grows. That part isn't at all from us. But the seed, the Word, is the necessary thing. When Christ went in spirit and made proclamation to the spirits in prison (1rst Peter chapter 3), they could hear the Word, if they were willing, these in 'prison' who had already passed from this mortal world.

Ok Jord if it wasn't the Bible verses and it wasn't the spirit regenerating you,I guess that leaves the flesh? The flesh with assistance from the holy spirit. Is that right?

I have understood faith means loyalty. And I want to be loyal to God, because He is good. How did I come to this? By reading the Bible.
