I know a priest who has almost done that with his extended family. Haven't checked out the stream yet, but the idea of making communities like that is a good one - and Orthodox people have done so before.

Imagine small pockets of Orthodox communities across the land like the Amish have. That would be great. Plus, with modern conveniences like high speed travel and the internet, the hinterlands in the past which would’ve fallen to heresy for want of an Orthodox clergy would be less of an issue.

That would be awesome to not have the distractions of tv, internet and cell phones in an Orthodox community.

Pretty much if you have in book form : The Lives of Saints, The Holy Bible, Church Father Writings and some Orthodox Prayer Books / Akathists you're good to go.

To add to my last post, it would be great to be able to have an Orthodox Commune type situation where you could be married but still have a Monastery Ish type living situation.

Maybe more of an Orthodox "Gated Community" or something like that LOL.

I spent a couple years in the Mennonites... It was good. Couple it with the Orthodox faith and you have a winner. They struggle with technology and the farther they go into it the farther away from sanity and tradition they get. I’m not sure you could have that type of community with open tech.

Do you mean: The more they embrace technology the further away from sanity and tradition they become?

I can see that especially with social media.

Yes, the technology rips people apart - tears them to shreds. It fundamentally alters the behavior of the person and causes (probably irreversible) neurological changes with a dopamine powered feedback loop.

I think my difficulties with executive functioning come from growing up with video games, but the shortfalls in executive functioning is observable in the other young men too.

But worse, the natural functions of community is sourced out to a third party in an unnatural way - and even if the third party doesn't intervene, the systems are designed for the profit of the third party regardless of the effect on the community.

I have enjoyed some of his other books. I'm sure this one is good too. I am not currently in a position for expanding the ol' library though.
I understand that.

I had to look that word up - executive function - and even though I am not real young this describes me. I must say wow!

Yeah, it's really something. I ran into it after I was distressed about performance issues at work.

I even looked up a cognitive functioning test that myself and a few of my friends took. My best friend (a woman) maxed out all the scores (way, way above average), but her son, myself, etc. all did either average or above average on all areas except the executive functioning, which were significantly beneath average - like what you'd expect from someone with a fresh concussion. I would consider the results worth further scientific exploration.
