The further and deeper we go into the scriptures, the more we realise that the world we live in did not come about by accident. And neither were any of us created by chance.
God knows each and every detail about our lives. Jesus said in Luke 12:7 that we "are worth more than many sparrows" and "even the hairs on our head are numbered". Our frame was not hidden from Him when we were made in the secret place, when we were woven together in the depths of the earth (Psalms 139:15).
The hair and skin which covers and protects us, the hands and feet we use to do our work, the eyes and ears we have to perceive the senses: none of these were created by accident. Every particle of our being, every molecule and cell, was created by the One who loves us and knows every detail about us.
When we buy a a self-assembly cabinet from a furniture store, we get a box of the bits and pieces that we have to put together. If we get one step wrong, then the finished product may look a bit odd or out of place. It may serve its function, but our perceptive friends and neighbours will often be quick to point out even the smallest blemishes.
But when God made us, He made no mistakes. We were created by our perfect architect and we are the genuine article. The next time we see a reflection of ourselves, we can rest assured in the knowledge that we are the complete product of God's handiwork and when He made us, He "saw that it was good" (Genesis 1:31).
When God created us, He did not intend to leave us on our own. We were created for relationship with Him. As Henri Nouwen points out:-
"The God-with-us is a close God, a God who we call our refuge, our stronghold, our wisdom, and even, more intimately, our helper, our shepherd, our love".
