17 deaths, numerous assaults and arsons in the riots over George Floyd’s death so far

What is the benefit of such violent rioting, looting, property destruction, assault on members of the community etc?

Answer: no benefit

The 17 people who have died in the protests and riots so far

What is the benefit of raising peaceful demonstration affirming the value of life -

Answer; a lot of benefit --

Question - with all those peaceful demonstrators standing around - while someone is being assaulted or killed - do they become "complicit" in the crimes they witness if they do nothing? If so how are they different from what they are demonstrating against?

What makes you think the peaceful protesters were in the immediate vicinity of the killings?

What are they demonstrating against? Are they demonstrating against private citizens who don't put themselves in harm's away in order to stop a crime? If that were true they would be demonstrating against the private citizens who were there when George Floyd was killed and did nothing.

Not true. Violence lead to the end of Apartheid in South Africa in the 1990's.
The End of Apartheid

It forces people to address realities they want to ignore.

If your policy is zero tolerance toward violence then you should be all in on removing unnecessarily police brutality (and thus with the nonviolent protests).

indeed I am all for no police brutality -- but I would not condone murdering those 17 people any more than murdering that one person. It all looks like murder to me.

Four armed American cops (an institution famous for beating and killing people and getting away Scot free) were killing a guy on camera and were so bold that they did not seem to care that the guys was begging for his life.

What exactly would you have done?

Yes, it is one way to look at violence--that's my point. There multiple ways of looking at issues of protest, riots, and civil disobedience.

From what I understand from earlier discussions about trying to stop deaths from various sources, if it is less deaths than the flu we can ignore them.

Oh, and from the evidence so far, they're different in the sense that they tend to be white supremacists stirring up trouble. That makes them obviously different from people peacefully protesting disproportionate police brutality towards minorities.

Imagine a scenario where Christians in a communist country were being choked and killed on TV - and the Christians expressed concern to the communist government that those responsible should be arrested... but the government's response was "not going to happen... Christians should be atheists.. we need less Christians".

Wouldn't we then expect that Christians would engage in some form of prayer and peaceful protest?

Well I mean have you seen how many people get killed in auto accidents each year? Who cares about deaths in police custody when we have that kind of carnage going on.

Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404

Influenza and pneumonia: 55,672

Number 1... no more pizza
number 2 .. no more smoking, no more meat eating
number 3.. no more cars
number 4.. no more air polution, smoking
number 5 and 6 ... no more ?? aluminum??
Number 7... no more ice cream and cake, or cookies

Still - 2.2M would be a huge top-dog in that list were it to occur
