As far as I can tell we don't know anymore than the first century Christians knew about when Christ would return. Nobody here on these forums or on world wide news is claiming Jesus had just talked to them and told us the end is coming.

I think recent technology advances make possible many things no other generation before could even dream of.

Hi Eze 5 was written before all of Judah fell and in that day the very things like fathers eating the children and vice versa did happen and the LORD said He would never bring them that low again. therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Indeed I, even I, am against you and will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations. 9 And I will do among you what I have never done, and the like of which I will never do again, because of all your abominations. 10 Therefore fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments among you, and all of you who remain I will scatter to all the winds. since this happened they are no longer under the Ezekiel 5 judgment. I look at Jesus warning them that since they missed the day of their visitation that there house will be left desolate. Eze 36 calls to the mountains of Israel and is speaking to those gathered back and notes many details and their future .
Some of those details is that the LORD brought them back for His own names sake and that they profaned His name in all the nations where they were scattered. But these same people God promises to remove their reproach from among the nations and put a new heart wtihin them so that in the day this occurs they will know that He is the LORD. So if you look at Isaiah 61 and see what comes after the acceptable day of the LORD that Jesus claimed he had fulfilled is the day of vengeance of our God. In the day of vengeance it is very zion focused and the LORD does a great work in that day. This is where we and Israel are right now at the close of the acceptable year of the LORD and on the cusp of the day of vengeance of God.

I won't say that I agree with oldwiseguy. However, the Jews suffered terribly for rejecting God's ways - exactly according to the covenant of blessing and cursing that they agreed to. The final judgement was at the hands of the Romans. About 40 years after Jesus was rejected, the temple was destroyed. Israel was laid waste in about AD100, again by the Romans. Conclusion? Don't mess with God. it has consequences.

Was WW2 God's judgement? I don't know. There was no nation of Israel. The holocaust was the final impetus to found the nation of Israel. Since that time, God has protected Israel and caused her to prosper. They still reject Lord Jesus.

Theologically, it is interesting that humanity is about to be brought down by debt. It is also amazing how the central banks, the executives, the media, everyone has watched all these large companies becoming more and more vulnerable, without being able to see the coming collapse. It is inevitable that a shock to the economy would come along. Coronavirus is merely the spark that is about to set off the bomb that our corporate and political leaders have built. It’s clearly a bomb, they’ve been building it for years, but they can’t see it’s a bomb as they keep adding more and more explosive. Government debt, consumer debt, and corporate debt, you can't just keep borrowing more and more money.

This coming catastrophe seems to be punishment from God, as so many smart people cannot see what they should be able to see.

You know, I actually do agree with most of this. Despite the apparent recovery in the economy in the last few years, which I do believe was real, debts never went away. And now debts are about to increase once again, which will be totally unsustainable. We destroyed our healthcare system right before a pandemic (how many people don't have basic insurance now, right when they need it?), families have been living on the edge for years putting hardly anything into savings (because casinos are just innocent fun and we have to go see Mickey Mouse every summer...), everything is going online but internet data plans that will actually sustain that amount of internet usage are expensive and unreliable (just talk to my friend who lives in a valley), student debt is as bad as ever, the attempt to force everyone to electric vehicles threatens to increase fuel costs for everyone else less fortunate if they're even still allowed to drive those vehicles, our agriculture sector is struggling chronically and thousands of farms and land have been sold for more housing putting even more strain on the system, illegal immigration went practically unchecked for decades creating a whole mess of societal problems that shouldn't have existed in the first place, drug use is on the rise causing pointless deaths and costing us tons of money in recovery programs, etc, etc. It was easy to look at booming business and people fixing up their homes and going on exotic vacations and believe everything was right with the world. But our carcinogenic cultural norms were still there waiting to bring us down again.

Do you understand that our economy is a debt-based economy and what that entails? The central bankers know exactly what is going on as they control and manipulate the economy. Debt finances the creation of money which puts more money in their pockets while taking money out of our pockets through credit debt and inflation. That is why the national debt is never paid down and they keep pumping fiat monies into the system. At a future point however that balloon will pop and take down the economy. The central bankers control the world; not politicians. The love of money is the root of evil. Jesus couldn't have said it any better!

Actually, Satan roams the earth seeking whom he may influence and/or devour. He does so by exercising what influence allowed him by God. Does not such involve moving on the minds/hearts of men, and by extension, on their actions? Of course it does (1 Chronicles 21:1; 1 Peter 5:8; Matthew 16:23).

Of course Satan has much to do with much of the moral evil in this world.

Whatever Christians do in response to such activity of the Enemy, it must include first acknowledgement of such demonic activity (Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 2:11) and additionally getting off our tails and doing something about it (prayer, teaching/preaching, etc.; 1 Peter 5:8-9; 1 Timothy 1:18; Matthew 9:38; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Jeremiah 29:7).

This is all the result of a system based on the love of money and materialism. We are constantly bombarded with images and ideas about how money and material wealth is the key to happiness to the point where people are fixated on needing to pursue it at all costs. That includes getting into life long debt. Its a house of cards that is shaky and about to fall.

The virus is a situation that puts the system under more pressure and deeper into debt. We have not seen the real fall out from the economic problems yet. I wonder if a system where thousands of small and medium business's are closing down and millions are made unemployed now needing welfare will cope. This has come at a time when experts were already saying that the economy was heading for another GFC.

There has to be a breaking point because a system cannot sustain that amount of debt. There is talk of billion and trillion dollar stimulus packages but like all the other failed attempts to keep the economy going and kick start it I think this will also fail. This may lead to a complete breakdown even worse than the 2008 GFC where large corporations, banks and countries will go bankrupt. This may cause massive inflation especially on essentials like food because supply won't be guaranteed.

As we have seen with the virus people will panic and I think this will lead to the government having to step in and ration food out. What we are experiencing now in limiting food and essentials is going to become a way of life. So the virus may be the straw that broke the camels back and though we may overcome the physical consequences there will be an ongoing economic aftermath that will trigger massive changes and control by the government where no one can buy or sell unless they have the mark of the beast.
