The prohibition against graven images applies to fashioning for yourself an idol and giving to it the worship rightly due to God alone.

God commanded the Israelites to fashion images for temple worship including the cherubim of the ark of the covenant.

I'm not certain what a shield of faith necklace is but provided that you do not offer to it the worship due to God alone you should be fine with it.

The pagans worshipped gods represented by statues (graven images). This is forbidden as statues are not God.

One should not suffer pains of conscience over using photos or illustrations along with text used for teaching or other communication, even though these are images.

As long as you don't worship your necklace, you can wear it. God bless

The 10 commandments should be read as a narrative, beginning with the first. "I am the Lord, the only God and you worship no other god..." (paraphrasing the first three). A "graven image" refers to anything that replaces God...your bank account, another person, etc. Dennis Prager has an excellent study on the 10 commandments, available on You Tube.

Some people may attach certain characteristics to such an item, such as thinking their prayers have no power unless they wear it while praying, or that they are unprotected without it. Anything that takes something away from God and attaches it to an item, is wrong.

That is not an idol. For the most part idols have been totally eradicated in the Western world. In biblical times they were common. On nearly every corner there was a statue of Diana or Zeus or Mithra or whomever. Christianity so defeated them that no one remembers who or what they were.

should be avoided.

It isn't so much the image as much as "bowing down to it" (i.e. becoming subservient to it).

In the Old Testament, while Moses was on Mount Sinai, the Israelites fell into idolatry and made the golden calf.

First, I think God's word means not to make something in order to worship it. But also I think we can make things which we suppose we can use to control God. Trinkets are no substitute for submitting to God and obeying how He takes care of us >

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

Second > something you wear might help to tell people you are a Christian, or it might be a way of expressing devotion to God; but we need to prove it by how we are and our obedience to God, and our good example of this

Shouldn't your love be your symbol that your a child of God?

"By this shall all men know your my disciples, if you have love one to another" John 13:35

Don't let a symbol you wear be more than what your supposed to be.. you shouldn't need any external symbol to wear to prove to others who you are in Christ, your actions should bear out your faith.

That said, you can wear any necklace you like, so long as you find inspiration or joy in it.
