I first heard of this idea about twenty years ago but never knew it had a name until just recently. Basically the idea goes that only certain books of the new testament apply to the Church, while the others apply only to the Jews. The gospels were for first century Jews, while most any book not written by Paul were written for Jews of the future. Or something like that. Different groups here and there have different opinions on exactly which books apply to whom, so there are varying beliefs among those who hold to the idea in general.

Does anyone here hold to this idea, regardless of the specifics? If so why? And how do you determine which books apply to whom?

I believe every single word in every single book was written for every single one of us. But I know there are those who don't. Actually, some of them have produced a new Bible just for their cause!

It's always important to know who the audience is and to who it was given.

As I recall, having been in that movement (Mid Acts) about 10 years ago, their main rallying cry, was 'when' the Church began? In the middle of Acts (Chap 10 or 13) or end of Acts (Bullinger Acts 28). The former group deny water baptism is necessary for the believer and the latter group denys water baptism and Communion are necessary with the reason that the respective practices were before the Church Age.
The Traditional Dispy view holds that the Church age began at Pentecost. I have slid a wee earlier and would say that the Church began at the shedding of Christ's Blood at Calvary based on Acts 20:28.
Now the true Dispensationalist would hold...
1. Have a literal view of Scripture.
2. See God still dealing with Israel/Jews on a national level with many of their prophecies as foretold in the First Testament as yet to come.
3. The hyper dispys are an abberation

Thank you for that quite funny attachment.

I know that my understanding of all of the prophecies is imperfect and partial but..... I do believe that this statement applies to every word from Genesis to Revelation and not only to the predictions regarding the death, burial and resurrection of Messiah.

If any of them are reading this thread, just look at the Sermon on the Mount in the gospels. Jesus was showing the commandments of the Old Covenant and how they were going to be changed in the New. But even though they appeared to be harder, because they revealed the core of our being, we now know that after His death and resurrection, He was going to give us the gift of His Spirit to start the New Covenant and take the eternal laws of God from the surface commandments of the Old, and write them on our hearts with a new born again nature of the powerful Spirit, who empowers us to keep the righteous requirements of the law through us.

Old Covenant - Law - surface - keep the letter of the law or die. Ministry of death

New Covenant - Spirit - inner being - believe on the name of Jesus Christ, and He will give you His Spirit to empower you to love your neighbor as yourself. Ministry of the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:4-11
4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

Dennis do you realize that the scriptures you quoted above 'in context' only apply to "all that the prophets have spoken" concerning "the predictions regarding the death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah"?

LUK 24:24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said; but him they did not see."
25 And he said to them, "O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"
27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Verses 24-25 deal with 'death, burial, resurrection of Jesus.
Verses 26-27 deal with Jesus confirming "himself" to be "the Christ".

Or am I missing something in your response leading you to believe we are to apply everything else written by the prophets?

So does this mean that you think that only the scriptures about the terrible death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah are to be believed........
but the predictions of a utopian earth where the Holy Spirit is to be poured out on all flesh are NOT to be believed?

Isaiah 11

And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.

2 And the Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Jehovah.

3 And his delight shall be in the fear of Jehovah; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither decide after the hearing of his ears; 4 but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his waist, and faithfulness the girdle of his loins.

6 And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea.

10 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse, that standeth for an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the nations seek; and his resting-place shall be glorious.

Do you think that the earth will be without any living inhabitant during the one thousand years after the Second Coming and the fulfillment of Zechariah 14?

Many of my Seventh Day Adventist friends believe something along that line.

So does this mean that you think that only the scriptures about the terrible death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah are to be believed........

My post just said I believed the verses you quoted didn't prove anything beyond the death burial and resurrection of Christ. They said nothing in support of having to believe every prophesy made by the prophets of the Old Covenant. Would you agree or not agree with 'that one point' concerning your post? Please answer. Your 'scriptural discernment' versus your 'indoctrination' hang in the balance of your answer IMO.

but the predictions of a utopian earth where the Holy Spirit is to be poured out on all flesh are NOT to be believed?
Was not the day of Pentecost the fulfillment of the "all flesh" prophesy of Joel according to Peter?

JOE 2:28 "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

ACT 2:15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that
I will pour out my Spirit upon all/PAS flesh/SARX,

So in answer to your question, I do believe that when the Holy Spirit baptized the 'whole body' of Christ in the temple on the day of Pentecost and all spoke in tongues that scripture was fulfilled. I say 'whole body' because according to one prophet 'that' is an equally correct interpretation of the words in that verse.

3956 pas: all, any, every, the whole
4561 sarx: flesh (as stripped of the skin), i.e.(strictly) the meat of an animal (as food), or (by extens.) the body (as opposed to the soul [or spirit],

I'm not even certain that the 1000 years is literal or metaphorical. "A thousand years is like a day unto the Lord." "He owns the cattle on a thousand hills." So are those two verses literal or metaphorical? I lean toward spiritually metaphorical.

Dispensationalists were very keen students of the Scriptures. One can benefit from their studies without buying into a system. Scripture comes first. If you have a good working knowledge of His Word you can test other's ideas and commentaries.

Good points... but my major point is that we Christians should not forget the promise for all human beings on this earth to know our Creator from the least to the greatest.......
and for the Holy Spirit to be poured out on all flesh...... which will even include a massive change in the nature of animals!

I was profoundly encouraged to read further evidence for this happening in the not too distant future here:

Howard Storm's Near-Death Experience

The future that they showed me was almost no technology at all. What everybody, absolutely everybody, in this euphoric future spent most of their time doing was raising children. The chief concern of people was children, and everybody considered children to be the most precious commodity in the world.

And when a person became an adult, there was no sense of anxiety, nor hatred, nor competition.

There was this enormous sense of trust and mutual respect. If a person, in this view of the future, became disturbed, then the community of people all cared about the disturbed person falling away from the harmony of the group. Spiritually, through prayer and love, the others would elevate the afflicted person.

What people did with the rest of their time was that they gardened, with almost no physical effort. They showed me that plants, with prayer, would produce huge fruits and vegetables.

People, in unison, could control the climate of the planet through prayer. Everybody would work with mutual trust and the people would call the rain, when needed, and the sun to shine.

Animals lived with people, in harmony.

People, in this best of all worlds, weren't interested in knowledge; they were interested in wisdom. This was because they were in a position where anything they needed to know, in the knowledge category, they could receive simply through prayer. Everything, to them, was solvable. They could do anything they wanted to do.

In this future, people had no wanderlust, because they could, spiritually, communicate with everyone else in the world. There was no need to go elsewhere. They were so engrossed with where they were and the people around them that they didn't have to go on vacation. Vacation from what? They were completely fulfilled and happy.

Death, in this world, was a time when the individual had experienced everything that he or she needed to experience. To die meant to lie down and let go; then the spirit would rise up, and the community would gather around. There would be a great rejoicing, because they all had insight into the heavenly realm, and the spirit would join with the angels that came down to meet it. They could see the spirit leave and knew that it was time for the spirit to move on; it had outgrown the need for growth in this world. Individuals who died had achieved all they were capable of in this world in terms of love, appreciation, understanding, and working in harmony with others.

Acts of the Apostles 2 was a partial fulfillment of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit... but it was also an indicator of what Messiah Yeshua - Jesus would do as his kingdom would increase... and increase... and increase.... and increase!

Studying information on this can transform the way in which we daily pray....."Thy kingdom come.... thy will be done on earth as in heaven!"

Isaiah 9
verse 7
"Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."

I agree with your above premise, probably even 'more' than you do Dennis.

NUM 16:22 And they fell on their faces, and said, "O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be angry with all the congregation?"

HEB 12:9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?

And yes he will change the nature of all the animal spirits. Because "ALL creation suffers and awaits the manifestations of the sons of God." Rom 8:19-22 Even the bad poisonous rattlesnakes and bone crushing pythons of creation will be changed. And yes, He will change the nature of the spirits of all men too, I believe.

I was profoundly encouraged to read further evidence for this happening in the not too distant future here:

We are always encouraged to read things which back our indoctrinated POV. But for me scripture doesn't support people returning from the dead to preach the gospel.

LUK 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him (LAZARUS) to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

I've read many NDE accounts or clinical death accounts and guess what? They are all different, though very compelling.

Acts of the Apostles 2 was a partial fulfillment of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit... but it was also an indicator of what Messiah Yeshua - Jesus would do as his kingdom would increase... and increase... and increase.... and increase!
What scriptural basis do you give for saying Acts was a partial fulfillment?

What scriptural basis do you give for saying Acts was a partial fulfillment?

Thank you for this excellent and profoundly encouraging post......

I am so glad to find out that you and I are actually closer to agreement on this than I thought at first.......

The scriptural evidence for Acts of the Apostles being mostly an example of what God could do would be.....

Revelation 3
where it is stated that the Ephesian era of the church lost their first love......

plus... the fact that the Spring harvest of Barley although important was eclipsed by the much greater fall harvest in the Holy Land.

Here is the situation with humanity at this time:

Jer 6:13
"For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely."

But here is what is coming after the massive outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh:

Jeremiah 21
verse 34
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

All of this sets the stage for:

Revelation 21
verse 3
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

We do live in interesting times, for sure. My eschatology POV found a great 'resting place' decades ago. Jamie Buckingham was addressing an auditorium full of pastors, at the end of a pastor's conference. It was the 'question an try to answer' session. A pastor asked Jamie what he knew about eschatology? Jamie took a big breath, sighed, and then answered; "All I know for sure is this. I know a lot LESS than I used to know. But the LITTLE that I do know suffices, that I don't worry about what I DON'T KNOW." I liked that answer so much I memorized this response. :)

I was talking with out pastor after the 6 AM Wednesday morning men's prayer meeting a few weeks back. He said he had been asked when he was going to preach on the rapture. He said he told them; "Which version should I preach on, Pre Mid or Post? Because it doesn't matter which one I preach on 2/3 of the people are going to be mad. So I'll just keep preaching to make sure that you are ready, no matter what happens." I laughed and told him that was a good answer.

Exactly.... back in 1988 while I was a member in good standing of the Worldwide Church of God I felt that my church had the Bible and latter day events figured out quite well but I suspected that I might be significantly off so I prayed and asked for wisdom.... and to be corrected and shown what I was wrong about. Within two to five years...... I knew that I know virtually nothing about how latter day events will specifically work out.... but I do have some firm ideas on the long term results.

Back in September of 2010, (more than six months before Mr. Mark Taylor was given somewhat similar insights).... I was led to a fascinating article by a man from Uganda that made me take a whole new look at what Isaiah 45
could turn out to really mean?????

Eporu Ronald Alfred

Dear brethren,
I salute you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

RE: SHARING NEW DISCOVERIES OF THE TRUTH IN BIBLE PROPHECY CONCERNING THE IMMINENT HEALING AND UNITY OF THE CHURCH

I am mesmerized by the truth in bible prophecy that the Spirit of God has been revealing over the recent years. Secret things belong to God and those that are revealed belong to us and our children... (Deut 29: 29).

1. King Cyrus the great ruled his country 555 years Before Christ i.e. from 576 BC to 530 BC and authorised the rebuilding of the second temple in Jerusalem. Cyrus of the Old Testament is hence associated with the number 555 and is the shadow figure of incoming Cyrus II of the New Testament. You may learn more about his history from the internet and scriptures. This new truth enables us to identify the leadership of the world that will rebuild the temple in Jerusalem as prophesied in book of Isaiah before the rise of antichrist. Cyrus II is coming to revive the evangelical/Pentecostal church in Jerusalem and restore the headquarters of the church in same city where the church was born. He is set to strip Babylon of the vessels of the temple and the name of the Lord God and transfer that crown back to Jerusalem thus leaving Babylon naked. Cyrus will rebuild the temple in Jerusalem in fulfilment of the prophecy of Jesus as written in the book of John 2:18-23 and the prophecy of Isaiah as written in chapters 40, 41, 45 and 47 of the book of Isaiah. Jesus regarded the temple as the symbol of his own body while saying that he had the power to lay it down on the first day (1st millennium) and rebuild or raise it up on the 3rd day (3rd millennium). Remember that one day in the eyes of God is the same as one thousand years (millennium) as stated in book of 2 Peter 3:8. Rebuilding of the temple is thus associated with unification of the church.

Cyrus II will rebuild the temple in honour of our lord Jesus Christ. The temple will be the unifying (rallying) point of the world wide evangelical church as the original headquarters of the church. Psalms133 denotes that there is such a powerful anointing that comes along with unity among brethren. Unification of the whole body of Jesus Christ will make the church so powerful that she will overrun the world within a short time before the return of our lord Jesus Christ. A divided church is a powerless church whereas a united church is a powerful church. The church can only be able to fulfil her ultimate mission of revealing Jesus to the world once we get united as one body of Jesus Christ following his last prayer for his disciples as written in John 17:20-23.

Cyrus II will erase that false image of Jesus that the counterfeit and Idolatrous state church of Babylon has been projecting around the world and revive the original church that projects the true brilliant image of Jesus Christ. Haggai 2:9 says that the glory of the latter church (temple) will be greater than the glory of the former church (temple). The rise of Cyrus will also usher in the ultimate fulfilment of the prophecy of Joel 2:28 where God intends to pour out His Spirit on all flesh in these last days. The era of Cyrus brings the gentile period of grace to its close and leads to the restoration of the Jewish period of grace and salvation.

2. King Manasseh was the shadow figure (forerunner) of the antichrist in the Old Testament who ruled over Jerusalem exactly 666 years Before Christ i.e. from 697 BC to 642 BC. (2 chronicle 33: 1-2 and 2 kings 21: 1-17). Antichrist is associated with the number 666 as written in the book of Revelation 13:18. Manasseh was the most evil king to have ever ruled over the city of Jerusalem and kingdom of Judah.

Manasseh is reported to have killed so many innocent people in Jerusalem that the streets of Jerusalem were flowing with blood; he worshiped pagan idols and stars; he built pagan alters for idols and stars in the very courtyards of the temple; he sacrificed his sons to idols; he consulted diviners and mediums; he even set up an abominable pagan image at the temple that causes desolation just as the incoming antichrist will do. It was on that basis that God decided to have that first temple destroyed completely since Manasseh had desecrated it.

3. Prophet Jonah was the shadow figure (forerunner) of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament who undertook his prophetic ministry around 777 B.C. Prophet Jonah is hence associated with the number 777. He arose from the shadow and demise of Prophet Elisha. His preaching radiated such great power and authority that turned the city of Nineveh as the rising super power of that time up side down within 3 days only (read the book of Jonah). Jonah was the prophetic force behind the restoration of the lost territories of Israel in the reign of King Jeroboam II of Israel between 782 BC and 741 BC as written in II Kings 14:25. Jonah related with God more or less as his own father and God loved him more or less as His own son. He volunteered to die save occupants of the ship and was raised to life after three days just like Jesus Christ. Jesus compared himself with Jonah as his forerunner in the Old Testament as far as his earthly ministry, death and resurrection was concerned in Mathew 12; 38-41, Luke 11; 29-32. Jesus will also oversee the restoration of the lost territories of Israel just like prophet Jonah when he comes to rule as the king of kings and Lord of Lords. We can therefore correctly associate Jesus Christ with the number 777 just like Jonah as our commander-in-chief, Lord of the Sabbath and fountain of life.

I was first introduced to the idea that a Jerusalem Third Temple would be needed before Zechariah 14
could be fulfilled back in the 1970's and I still think that that is a good theory.

Isaiah 66
5,6

indicate a functioning temple is needed.... before it can be cleansed by Messiah at a whole new level from when Messiah overturned the tables of the money changers!

Start praying and don’t make your temple a den of thieves an it’s fulfilled right there. Or are you saying that the physical should come before spiritual and that the world should see the manifestation of the temple before the full body of Jesus is revealed? You do know that the third temple is made of wood do you not? No gold overlay to be found. That would indicate that it doesn’t have God’s covering.

I do believe that a greater and greater and greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit is happening right now and when the Jewish people receive support from Christians to fulfill Ezekiel 40 to Ezekiel 48 to the best of their ability......
Jews will begin to recognize the role that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus really played.

I believe that the glory in the cleansed Jerusalem Temple will be so great that liars and thieves would not be able to go near it.

Revelation 15
Rev 15:8

And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

and

Ezekiel 47
