I believe it goes something like:

- Conspiracy theorists say the astronauts never actually died
- Therefore the disaster was a fake
- Therefore the whole space program is a fake
- Therefore outer space is a fake and the earth is flat
Convinced me.

The astronauts do the maintenance. Seals can last a long time before replacement, you don't seem to understand that its not the absolute pressure a seal cares about but the differential pressure across it. 15 psi or so is not very much pressure difference to seal anything.
  • Why do you need back pressure to vent something? All you need is a differential pressure.
There is a grounding system on the ISS, do you understand electricity and what a ground is? Replacing components may be hard but they do it.
These are designed not to break, crack etc. when exposed to these conditions. These are not as extreme conditions as you want to believe. I was on a sub, did maintenance on a sub, the hatch seals never needed replacement the 4 years I was on it. These had to seal with over 400 psi differential pressure, the kind of pressure the ISS does not have to deal with. The reactor pumps have seals that are exposed to 480 F temps and 2000 psi differential pressures.

It seems that just because you don't understand how these things can be done then they cannot be done. That is fallacious. These have been demonstrated to work since 1969, or I guess that is another conspiracy theory you must believe in right? No moon landing.

Some of these people have been confirmed to live at the same time the challenger blew up. How do you explain that. This sullies their memories by calling them liars without sufficient evidence.

You are making the claim it is up to you to figure that out.

Why are most flat earthers so combative? I believe it is because they know they are wrong.
There was a video, maybe audio I cannot remember, that had a submarine mechanic talking about the issues that he dealt with on a submarine when he was active in the navy. He talked of all the spare parts, machining, welding, and other seals and valves that would fail and how they repaired them with specialists and tradesmen in the ranks..

He mentioned how he could not fathom how the ISS functions. He mentioned how things fail and wear due to the fatigue on a submarine and wondered how the extremes of space would be much more harsh..

It was a great eye opener for anyone who was not aware of the simple aspects of maintenance on these vessels... And, an eye opener to the impossibilities of the ISS.

I could not find it but I did find this:

Yeah, I can imagine that however tough a submarine has it, always in an environment of constantly changing pressure, water leaks, corrosion, constant dampness and what have you, the ISS has it much worse with an environment of... Well, pretty much nothing.

The ISS is in a constant flux of temperature extremes and high radiation...and an almost absolute vacuum. (Did you know that NASA only did one, that's 1 lonely test of their space suits, in a vacuum... and the guy almost died) Ever seen what the sun, here on earth, will do to a plastic container... it turns it brittle...

Look, I have a good grasp of mechanics.. but I'm no professional... The guy that was on the recording that I cannot find.... was.. a professional. He stated that there is no way that the ISS could be left up there with such a small crew and with so little maintenance tools, spare parts and skilled trades people... without severe failure.

If anyone out there knows where to find this recording, I would greatly appreciate it.

You realize that the ISS orbit hugs the earth pretty tightly, right. I don't think that it experiences much in the way of radiation ... or temperature flucuations ...

I could not find it but I did find this:

When it comes to seal pressures, subs have to withstand FAR more pressure than outer space.

You remember the claim about the tires of star man's car exploding in outer space and how we showed that it was only a 15 psi difference? Same rationale with the seals. They only have to withstand 1 atmosphere of pressure. Super easy. Subs, on the other hand deal with MUCH higher pressures...

Ever seen what the sun, here on earth, will do to a plastic container... it turns it brittle...

Guess it's a good thing they decided not to build the ISS out of plastic lunchboxes then.

Look, I have a good grasp of mechanics.. but I'm no professional...

And yet we have a whole bunch of professionals that say you are wrong, and none that can demonstrate that you are right.

The guy that was on the recording that I cannot find.... was.. a professional. He stated that there is no way that the ISS could be left up there with such a small crew and with so little maintenance tools, spare parts and skilled trades people... without severe failure.

So you can't even find the evidence you have? That's a laugh.

"Hey, everyone, I have this remarkable proof! If anyone can find it, let me know!"

That's not very convincing.

(BTW, how have you determined that this person was a professional? I mean, I can make a video on Youtube saying I'm a professional in whatever field I choose.)

Might have been one of these on this list: Flat Earth Testimony Shows by Subject Matter Experts - YouTube

There are interviews with sub chiefs, pilots, industrial valve experts, navigators, gunners, flight instructors, artillery operators, etc.

If not, others, such as the Globebusters crew and Jeranism, have been interviewing field experts for a number of years as well, demonstrating the prevalence of the flat earth in their respective fields. So, if it's not one of these, it might be on either of the other two channels.

Oh please.

Why not make people in witness protection keep their same name, and then the criminals who would kill them would think, "Well, there's no way they'd still be using their name, so it can't possibly be the person we're looking for!"

Cause nobody's looking for these criminals. The sheep are sedated and watered so they just refuse to believe even when they're presented with powerful evidence. Instant denial mode, programmed reaction. Atheism itself is the devil's delusion, so go figure.

You guys actually have a good reason to cling to your delusions.

But what motivation do we Atheists have? I would love to spend eternity with the people I love but I learned at an early age that reality does not bend to my will.

Of course they can, haven't you seen the ads?

'Unlike your car, plane, boat or any piece of machinery whatsoever, the ISS seals come with a lifetime guarantee in all space weather conditions. Never mind those pesky temperatures, breakneck speeds, pressures, isolation, ferocious unknown conditions and inaccessibility, these self-maintaining, self-repairing, auto-replacing seals, valves and pumps will keep on ticking year in year out. Buy now and also get a free Chris Hadfield talking doll, spews out more lies than paid forum shills.'

Not a lot, just keep reminding yourself you're a random electrified meatsack made of stardust. There's no truth, just grab what you can while you can, it'll all be over soon enough.

That you find reality uncomfortable is not my problem.

Life isn't some cartoon musical where you sing a little song and all your insipid dreams magically come true.

Oh rubbish. If no one is looking for them, why are they put in witness protection?

Oh, and by the way, they don't generally put criminals into witness protection.

JFYI, Wikipedia has a list of the major unplanned maintenance & repair issues on the ISS - there are plenty of references too.

NASA has all the relevant documents online. Here is the In-Flight Maintenance Book for the Expedition 1 ISS Flights, covering routine maintenance procedures on a variety of systems and structures aboard the ISS.

Here is the ISS Emergency Operations manual for leaks & fires, etc. It's a bit technical as it gives the actual steps to be taken.

Here is the ISS Program Off-Nominal Situation Plan outlining the general plan of action for the whole project when things go wrong.

The criminals to which I refer are the astronots. Do try to keep up.

It's incalculably more profound and miraculous. But those who reject earthly truths can never understand things above.

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.

Is it not the Mark Sargent show with an ex-navy guy and letter from an industrial valves expert, I linked at #874, summarised roughly at #890?
