Why am I still so drawn to the occult?

One of the things that has been negative for me is realizing how evil people really are when the veil is removed and you can see the "hidden" wicked things people are doing.

.
Yes I read certain stories online that makes you question humanity. Such as John Wayne Gacy who wore a mask whilst killing men around my age to testify his lust

So just a little bit of background information.. I have always felt a strong belief in God and went back and forth with Christianity and various other idealisms throughout my younger life (I'm 21 now, still young.) But since I was a young child I've always felt drawn to the occult, magic, numerology, astrology etc. My mother hasn't really ever been in my life (substance abuse and mental health issues), but I've always been under the impression that her lineage has ties with Witchcraft/ Wicca from the things I do know about her. I was finally baptized last July on a whim after a discussion with my uncle and after several encounters with what I now recognize as demons. After I was baptized I really started finding Christ and reading God's word and have fallen deeply in love with Jesus and with the word. I'm still a baby Christian obviously and have a long way to go. What I'm asking basically is why am I still so drawn to the occult? Every time I see something like tarot or magic or anything to do with the occult, it's weirdly so magnetic? I know that it's wrong and it goes against God's word, I know that Jesus is the truth and the way, so why am I still tempted by this stuff? I know how evil it is. It doesn't make sense.

Good to hear you wish to follow Christ.
We need to keep close eye on
the world, the devil and our flesh.

Seems that all three of those may possibly be wrapped up with this witchcraft and occult stuff.

Best flee ASAP.

It's just more sin
which can take us out
((the devil wants to kill us)).

You will fell and think better
once you have overcome.

We all still struggle with things of our former lives. We are just growing in grace. A child doesnt learn to run before they can crawl or walk. Even when a child does start running its very wobbly and unstable, It takes time.

I often tell God that if he doesnt help me I will fall. And I have yet to experience a moment when he doesnt make every effort to help me overcome. I may not always choose his way of escape, but he does make the effort.

Be strong and courageous, the Lord is with you wherever you go! Joshua 1:8

My mother introduced me to spell making and tarot reading when I was around 10 years old. She taught me a lot about astrology too.

if you are truly Saved, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and if you have given your life and your will over to Him, then what you are experiencing is pure and simple spiritual warfare. It is not magnetism that draws you to the occult, though that is a very accurate way to describe how it feels.

Ephesians 6:12 tells was what we are fighting against:
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Believers need not fear the forces of evil, even when sin prevails in our lives.
Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

It has taken time for me to accept these truths about the powerlessness of the evil I was taught. I pray you will see the Truth too. May God Bless you and protect you.

I love tarot reading, divination, palm reading and all that stuff. As a Asian Christian, I was told about Chinese Astrology by my parents as a child. And I did a short course in palm reading. I was fourteen when I did it. My step sister who is 35 was my teacher.

So you prefer for these things to be hidden from you? You wish to remain in the dark and pretend that you see light?

Witchcraft, and anything to do with exploring the demons is definitely against God's will. I am going to take a different position than some who answer you probably will.

In scripture we see many examples of quick conversions to Christianity. But we don't see how long those conversions lasted. Because you can't be fully converted to anything you don't fully understand. When Christ was here, in scripture after he healed people he frequently said, go your way and don't continue to sin. He wouldn't say that if the possibility didn't exist. And he couldn't have been referring to the type of sinning all people do, because he knew they would continue in that.

The point I am leading to is that it is possible to see something in Christ that is appealing, and to be attracted to that without deciding to really follow him as he requires. That's a decision you have to make, either to do it or not to do it. Habits from the past sometimes get in the way of new Christians following Christ up to their potential. But the occult, according to scripture, is not like a Christian having a smoking habit. Ancient Jews were told to stone their members who practiced it, because it was dabbling with God's enemies. It is attempting to communicate with them.

If you want to follow Christ you cannot do that. If anyone here tells you that you can, don't believe them, they don't know scriptures and they don't know Christ or his father if they say that. God is not going to tell the ancient Jews to kill people who did that, and then accept Christians who do.

We are all tempted to stick our noses into things that are not beneficial to us. We can, through the grace of God, overcome those temptations. What I did is memorized the 23rd psalm. EZ to do. Every time my mind begins to wander into things that I shouldn't be dealing with I just pray the psalm. It is very soothing and powerful. I personalize it as well...Lord God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, you are my shepherd I shall not want. You lead me beside the still waters. You lie me down in green pastures. You restore my soul. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. For you are with me. Your rod and your staff comfort me. You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head in oil. My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever, in Jesus name I pray by the Holy Spirit.

Maybe it's because all those things and paraphernalia that purport to be "magical" in nature offer us the false hope of finding and having easy access to .......................... empowerment in life.

Besides, who wants to 'wait' upon a God who might not only act slowly to answer our prayers, but maybe even say, "No!" to us? It's how we answer this question that shows whether or not magic might be attractive to us in its counterfeit glitter and gloss.

Greetings,

When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first. —Luke 11:24-26

You’ve answered your question in your OP. As a young believer, you’ll be tempted by previous sins. They’re meant to draw you away from God and back into the places He’s brought you from.

In respect to the occult, it’s best to cut all ties. This includes connections, spiritual objects, websites, and so on. The attraction will remain if you feed it and grow over time.

Write down the things you’re attracted to. List them all. Then pray them back to the Lord, asking for His healing, deliverance and protection. Pray Psalm 91 and 18 when you feel overwhelmed. It may take a while but eventually it will abate.

Don’t open the doors once they’re closed. Your problems will be demonstratively worse.

~Bella

A lot of good advice already, but I would like to emphasise and expand on one post:
Do you still have the objects in your house. This might sound strange but if you have anything in your house or your room thats involved with occultic views get rid of it. Demons are invited into your life by the things we choose to do in our life, and they influence us and try to throw us off course when we try to change. Renouncing the occult requires repentance and prayer and also your will power... (continued)
Repentance and casting out are great, but keeping certain objects around can give demons license to come straight back in.
Before coming back to faith, I went quite far into occult subjects, and amassed a lot of paraphernalia. Once I saw the truth, I repented of my previous life, and saw I needed a serious clearout of 'stuff'. There are many in deliverance ministry who can give long lists of items to get rid of, but even a bible could hold soul ties if it was 'misused' by a previous owner.
Deliverance Ministry is contentious to some, and heady, heavy stuff to others. But I think on a basic level it is easy to see that having an ouija board in the closet is not a great idea. My advice to you is to look at your belongings, identify anything you wouldn't be comfortable explaining to other Christians why you have it, and dispose of it. Doing so will at the very least strengthen your resolve that those thing have no part in your life now. And yes, repent and pray. Ask the Lord to help you identify items you should dispose of, and to show you anything else that may be a barrier to a full and fruitful relationship with Him.

There is a high degree of probability that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus plans to send you to
many who are in the occult..... to bring them out like Moses led Israel out of Egypt...... so I would suggest studying those who also have a ministry to the occult.......

Listening to John Ramirez is a good start........
you might want to read his books as well.....

Listening to John Paul Jackson on youtube is another good idea......

It took me years to quit smoking as a Christian even though I disapproved of it. There are some parts of things we took part of in the world that tend to hang around. We can, though, get deliverance in time by staying on the right things.

I quit smoking, too. But boy, do I still miss it!

One of the things that has been negative for me is realizing how evil people really are when the veil is removed and you can see the "hidden" wicked things people are doing.

.

Yes! How do you unsee this? I miss being naive.

I had a friend growing up tell me about the illuminati and NWO when I was, like, 9. I hated when she'd bring it up, but she just had to share it "...wait, I'm almost done. Let me just say this one last thing." Ugh.

I wish I had hung up and run the other way. It's hard to unlearn something. The veil is gone.

I pray God seeps into the cracks and fills them up again.

I was into that stuff a bit myself... but now I find nature and the universe much more exciting to learn about... especially on the quantum level!.... God is great:amen:

On the quantum level? How so? Like string theory?

The most disturbing part is when you see people at church claiming to be Christian doing "occult" stuff like using Mudras and Hand Seals etc. The road to eternal life is Narrow and Few will find it.

Check out it this quote from John Chrysostom :

“I do not think there are many among Bishops that will be saved, but many more that perish.”
• St. John Chrysostom (347-407 A.D.)

Extract from St. John Chrysostom, Homily III on Acts 1:12
