The players change but the game doesn't. Canada votes tonight and we have the chance to change from one party to another but honestly, I don't see a different, not really. The two big party's circle the same issues and want to expand the State, reduce personal freedoms, etc.

Is democracy rigged? I mean, Canadian politics are not as grand as the US but it sure seems to be rigged to me.

Why vote?

Yours in the Lord,

jm
PS: I voted in the advanced polls for a party that doesn't have a snowballs chance.

Yes, "democracy" is not "Righteous", nor Godly, nor truthful.
It is as you say 'rigged'.

Six choices here, and I didn't like any of them. I held my nose and voted for one of the independent candidates.

We do not have the choice in Australia. However, you can make a statement by which candidate you support. Pray first of course.

To a great extent, democracy in Canada may well be rigged, but even more so in the United States, where the two major political parties truly rig the system in their favor. They make near impossible for an Independent to win the Presidency. Regardless, I refuse to vote for the two major U.S. parties who have shown nothing but incompetence for decades when it comes to the issues of the Federal Deficit, the need for immigration reform and the need to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy. While I strongly disagree with what George Wallace stood for back in 1968, he was right when he said, "There is not a dime's worth of difference between the national Democratic and Republican parties." Just as true, Ralph Nader was right in 2000 when he referred to the Dems and the Repubs as "Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee."

I vote mainly to give future ballot access for my third party of choice. There’s normally a candidate or two I like in the primaries but people that make sense never get to the general election.
That's pretty much what I did.

Vote splitting could be eliminated if people were permitted to vote for as many as they found acceptable. Each candidate would get an up or down vote from each voter. That way, people would not be voting for the party or candidate that they thought had a chance, trying to guess at what everyone else is going to vote, which gives a great deal more power to the mainstream media and the two-party establishment; the media tells us how everyone will vote, and the two parties in our country can never be usurped. If we can always vote for the little guy without sacrificing an effective vote, then the little guy would have a chance to rise up.

Right now, the election system seems more like an illusion aimed at suppressing a rebellion.
