Reagan was a staunch defender of Nixon right up to the resignation.

Nixon's supporters rewarded him with the presidency 6 years laters.

I always wonder why Nixon kept audio tapes. Is it because he wanted to remember somethings?

PS. I am not American, i reside in Singapore, but have been following America and global politics closely.

Did Reagan ever express any regrets in hindsight?

Huh. Is that new? I always thought only mods could edit it.

No, Reagan won the election because Jimmy Carter was a complete failure as a President. Not as a reward for anything.

Not that I can find.

"When the commander in chief of a nation finds it necessary to order employees of the government or agencies of the government to do things that would technically break the law, he has to be able to declare it legal in order for them to do that."

[Reagan's] Response to the Frost-Nixon interviews on the Watergate scandal, UPI, May 21, 1977.

That argument could apply to literally anyone so it functionally applies to no one.

Horse hockey - anyone didn't crater our economy so bad we were paying double digit mortgage rates - that was Carter - anyone's policies didn't result in gas rationing - that was Carters - anyone's policies didn't effect the financial institutions so badly new car finance rates were at 12.5% and above - that was Carter. Anyone's foreign policy didn't help the Muslim Brotherhood take foot on Egypt - that was Carter. Anyone's foreign relations didn't keep hostages in captivity over 440 days - that was Carter.

The only thing that applies to no one is the quote above.
