A lot of people say that Halloween had satanic origins, but actually it started as a Christian celebration of our departed saints and martyrs. So yes, I believe Christians can celebrate Halloween just fine. However, I think it best not to do just anything. Don't glorify the satanic. Dressing up as Disney characters or superheroes is fine. Even spiders, bats, or snakes--I mean, those are just natural creatures. Creatures some are scared of, but it's just wildlife. But ghosts, spirits, demons, etc. -- no.

I would even go so far as to say that Halloween parties and trick-or-treating instills a spirit of community. You are giving away candy. Loving your neighbor and giving are Christian things.

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!

Christians should just be sensible about it! Wear a costume that isn't gruesome, too revealing, ugly or hateful in some way, or too gross. Idk what I'm going to go as this year. Last year I went as somebody from the 60s! It was fun! Flowers in my hair. Peace sign. Stuff like that. I was too cheap to buy a costume, lol.

At age 72, I might go out for a walk, just to enjoy seeing people and saying hi. But Halloween Eve is one of the times I don't wear my costume >

I look a little like a bumble bee, in my bike helmet and reflector vest.

You asked ..so I will answer. I know things about this day how it was started.. and what happens now. Very evil things happen. Its a day that has nothing what so ever to do with God. It gives no glory no praise to Him or the son of God. So I have nothing to do with that day.

Be wise for believers to never open that door. And yes.. I LOVE my Father my God.. I want everything I do to give Him glory and praise.. that is always about Him points to Him.

Halloween is a day that glorifies darkness. It does not have Christian origins, and moreover, it has obviously Pagan origins- and therefore it is anti-Christ to the core. Anyone who wants to walk in the Light of God's Word and be out of the realm of the devil needs to steer clear of all celebration and approval of this holiday.

1 John 1:5-6: "5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth"

2 Corinthians 6:14-18: "14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

I would like to mainly hear some opinions. Should Christians celebrate Halloween? What kinds of costumes should Christians wear?
Do a search on the forum for "Halloween" if you want to get an overload of hundreds of different opinions. You're not going to get a right or wrong answer because...well....everyone is convinced they're right in their own mind.

This subject inevitably comes up every year on Christian-themed forums.

MICHAEL VICHEOLA In the Bible we are told clearly "Do not do what the pagans do...." What is good about Halloween? Nothing. Kids are given a ton of candy which is bad for them physically and mentally. Even if they wear innocent costumes they are walking the same paths with those who are dressed like witches and demons, ax murderers, prostitutes and on and on.

Now isn't it interesting that Halloween gets more and more violent in its costumes as the years go by? That should tell you a ton. Is it becoming more and more focused on anything righteous and holy? Heck no.

Here is research from CBN indicating the pagan origins of Halloween:
What Are the Pagan Roots of Halloween?

If you talk to, or research, any former (or even present) witches they will tell you that Halloween is one of their prime holidays. What does it have to do with our Savior and the Bible? Nothing whatsoever. Flee from it.

As for those who say Halloween is just a celebration of All Saints Day, I ask anyone to seriously ponder: When have you ever known an adult, much less a child, who said they were celebrating that day, instead of saying they are celebrating Halloween? Rhetorical Q.

I have never in my life heard anyone saying, "Oh, let's go out and celebrate All Saints Day!" and I used to be Catholic, too.

Michael On reflection it almost seems irrelevant whether or not Halloween has pagan origins. Let's say this culture had never heard of Halloween, Then someone comes along and says, "Hey! I have a great idea for a holiday for kids! Let's ply them with all the junk candy they can beg from people as they trek through dark streets. Then, let's have them dress up in costumes. Those who want to dress like evil spirits from the dark side, serial killers and hookers are welcome, and are sure to come in great numbers. Oh, and let's have the kiddies celebrate on October 31st, which is strongly associated with devil worship, per people like Anton Le Vey and other big time satanists. Won't that be a nice, healthy, wholesome, Christian way for your kids to spend an evening?"

People are just so used to the tradition of Halloween that they don't clearly see the obvious in what is going on.

** ahem ** Maybe a 'Spencer Reid' costume would be a better choice? ^_^

Celebrate Halloween, I say! Just don't dance in a circle around a fire, chanting a bunch of indiscernables to Lucifer/Satan.

I agree. As long as the costumes don't denounce Christianity or promote anti-Christian values.

Same. Last year for Halloween, I made hot pumpkin soup. We watched a movie and I left sweets out on the porch.

This year we are inviting friends round for a party. We will eat pumpkin soup, tell spooky stories, munch Halloween sweets, bob for sponges, have cocktails, and possibly watch a creepy film as well.

Hello Michael. Some supermarkets sell 'Halloween Ouija Boards' targeted specifically at children. It's a doorway to danger. Of course not everyone who celebrates Halloween will go through that door, some will. But you would be opening the door to powers you cannot possibly comprehend.

One group I would strongly implore that do not get involved in Halloween are pregnant women. You have to consent to give yourself over to evil, the unborn cannot. God Bless :)
