Isn't that something. Mayor Pete is "preaching" a kinder gentler acceptance from the Bible, but anyone who disagrees with him is taken to task and judged.

It's an strange, ironic, bizarro political world we live in, and those who don't see that are part of the problem. I had an online friend whose motto was, "Intolerance has killed its thousands; and tolerance its tens of thousands".

Buttigieg’s pastor ‘brother-in-law’ calls on 2020 Dem to ‘repent’ for pro-abortion claims

September 9, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Christians are pushing back against 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg for his claim that the Bible suggests human life does not begin until breath, including one critic that hits especially close to home: an evangelical pastor who is also the brother of Buttigieg’s “husband.”

On Friday, Buttigieg, who is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, appeared on the Breakfast Club radio program for an interview with host Lenard "Charlamagne tha God" McKelvey, where he tried to make the case that President Donald Trump and the Republican Party are the ones who actually fall short of Christian teaching due to their positions on economics and healthcare, but “hold everybody in line with this one kind of piece of doctrine about abortion.”

“Then again, you know, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath,” he countered. “And so even that is something that we can interpret differently.”

Pro-lifers assailed Buttigieg’s claim for twisting Scripture and ignoring science to justify abortion, particularly the idea that Genesis 2:7’saccount of God creating Adam – “Then the Lord God formed a man(a) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” – is representative of how every subsequent human being came into existence (long-settled biological criteria establishes that a living human being is created upon fertilization).

Among the critics was Rhyan Glezman, a Michigan pastor who is also the brother of Buttigieg’s “husband” Chasten.

"I feel a sense of responsibility and stewardship of my faith to stand up and say something, to say, 'No, that's not true,'" Glezman told the Washington Examiner. "God places a very high value on all human life. Everyone is created fearfully and wonderfully in the image of God with intrinsic value. That doesn't start at the first breath, it starts when we enter our mother's womb."

"If we're going to say we're for all people and we love all people, but we don't value human life in the womb, that's being a hypocrite,” Glezman continued on Buttigieg’s “outrageous” use of Scripture. “You're hypocritical if you don't stand up for all life. So that's why I'm speaking out."

Glezman went so far as to call Buttigieg a “modern-day pharisee,” who has “manipulated” and “weaponized” Scripture in the name of politics, and is “making up their own rules and regulations and, basically, if we don't celebrate and endorse their interpretation of Scripture, our religion is fallible.”

"This isn't a little issue, especially when we're talking about life," he declared. "This is not just a political conversation. We're talking about human life. These are human beings." Glezman added that he considered the entire 2020 Democrat presidential field “very anti-life” and “very anti-God.”

The Bible repeatedly condemns “murder” and “shed(ding) innocent blood” as “detestable to” the Lord, because “in the image of God has God made mankind.”

Glezman added that he loves both Pete and Chasten, but hopes the South Bend mayor will “repent from teaching these false claims of Christianity; that he would just have an absolute encounter with God. ... Anyone who makes those claims, anyone who's going to weaponize the (Bible) in that way, I would say to anyone that you need to repent. This is leading people astray and it's very, very dangerous."

Why should we care about this guy's absurd view of life when he's an unrepentant sodomite? Is it really all that shocking that someone who isn't a Christian misrepresents what scripture teaches? I'm not shocked or surprised in the least, if anything it's expected. Buttigieg needs Jesus, he needs to repent of his sin. Until then we can expect more of the same absurd misrepresentations.

Another less inflammatory way of defining "extremist late term abortion policy" is "pro-choice."

Chasten has said he was homeless. I imagine his brother may be embarrassed over his family's temporary rejection of his brother, particularly since he is a clergyman.

The similarity Chasten and his brother share is that both seem to have a certain degree of charm. The difference that they have is that, although they are both Christian, Chasten belongs to the Episcopal Church and his brother belongs to a non-denominational church, and the way they interpret the gospel message of Jesus differs.
You are equating "Parents do not enthusiastically approve" with "Parents barred him from their home".

The first is not the second, at all. And this is constantly conflated by those with an agenda to advance, as well as pretty much every disgruntled teen everywhere who leaves voluntarily and then claims to have been "thrown out".

Facts matter.

It is one thing for Rev. Glezman to say that his brother-in-law is unfit to be president because he is pro-choice and gay.

It is another thing to do this:

As a member of the clergy, he should not be endorsing any particular candidate for president, nor should he be commenting about the unfitness of his brother-in-law to be president. As the leader of a tax-exempt organization, he should discuss issues without discussing candidates, and he should never tell his parishioners---or the entire country on a radio show---not to vote for a particular candidate.

I think I am beginning to understand why Chasten was homeless living in his car for a period of time during college :(

He questioned his statements on being pro-choice. When Buttgeig claimed its in the bible as okay? People that are pro-life are going to stand up, and question his footnote. He never said anything about him being unfit due to being gay. I don't even know where you got that. That's passing along a falsehood.

There was an article claiming one of his brother was far from thrilled when he came out. His mother was crying, and his family was upset. That can't be all that uncommon, although I'm sure not everyone reacts the same way. Buttgeig's husband made his own decision to leave the family home after that. After sofa hopping at friend's places, and not wanting to over step his bounds in that circumstance at times he choose to sleep in his car. Then his mother called one day and asked if he would come back home. He returned.

Why this short period of his life - in which he was welcomed back after both sides got a cooling off period to let the news settle in has anything to do with anything. It's a very manipulative way of putting things. One brother doesn't that isn't thrilled doesn't speak for the whole family.

If you are going to attempt to criticize clergy at least get your facts straight.

Buttigieg's brother-in-law is not his pastor. He is the pastor of a Christian denomination that is decidedly "non-denominational."

The Buttigiegs have chosen to be Episcopal and are following their Episcopal beliefs to the best of their ability. Their church's position is listed here:

I think that Buttigieg's brother-in-law needs to respect their sincere efforts to follow God and lead good lives. Mayor Pete has dedicated his life to public service. Chasten has dedicated his life to teaching children. They both seem to be doing superlative jobs with integrity and, most of all, a desire to serve the common good. He should mind his own business.

His pastor isn't the only one saying his stand on abortion is incorrect with regards to what he claims the bible says. It makes no difference what denomination they are. I read their church's link, and whereas many churches help in the areas in which they stated. It doesn't say in that statement anywhere what he claims his beliefs are on the subject. There are some difference there as well.

Disagreement on this position doesn't mean 'disrespect'. There are huge difference there, and its shame today's culture can't seem to wrap their minds and hearts around that fact. Disagreement has NEVER meant disrespect. They are two different balls of wax.

No doubt he (pastor) and his family have also dedicated their lives to helping others, and to serve their communities. Speaking out on something he feels is extremely wrong is part of a person's faith, and just because you might not agree with his position...doesn't mean he disrespected or should mind his own business. Remember he is running to be HIS President as well.

Buttigieg is a big boy and his husband is as well, and no doubt can handle a little disagreement. If they can't? It's time for them to stop running for office. It's part this job, and it will get more ugly from non-family members.

I agree that Buttigieg's brother-in-law should speak on the issues.

Because churches are tax exempt, every clergyman should feel free to express his beliefs but not endorse candidates. It's called the Johnson Amendment.

Of course, when Buttigieg's brother-in-law praises Trump as if he is morally superior (ROFL) by comparison, he completely loses credibility with all those who have seen Trump's many offenses against women, his long list of unpaid contractors, his 12,000 lies to the American public, etc.

From what I have read about the Johnson Amendment is the organization - non-profits, not just churches under certain classifications - are not to endorse candidates. In other words, no telling people from the pulpit whom to vote for, no arming of the organization to work for the candidates, etc. They -as individuals - can still speak as fellow human beings. Holy man and women from every walk of life - and faith - have been doing that for since the Johnson amendment was put into law. They just can't arm their organization for political work, etc.

Once again you are throwing something into the ring that isn't there. Disagreement doesn't mean they act as if they were 'morally superior'. Disagreement is just that - Disagreement.

If he is agreement with something Trump claims to believe in? That doesn't mean someone acts as if they are morally superior. It means they are in agreement on that position.

People are getting to carried away with this black and white thinking. People from all walks of life speak with passion on what they believe, and that doesn't equal any melodramatic rip coming from the other side. If they truly had an issue with the discussion at hand? They would plainly put out why they disagree, and leave the drama behind. The way you put it? No doubt unintended - is that your position is morally superior to anyone that opposes your point of view. That about a untrue and outrageous as when anyone else says it.

Coming out and saying you are uncomfortable with the brother in law stating his positions under these circumstances is fine. Stating they need to shut up and go away due to that uncomfortable feeling is not. We would never hear any points of view other than our own if that was the case, and that leads to - think human nature and history for a moment - an overbearing sense of self. Sadly, that has become very popular and encouraged today. People do it without even thinking due to encouraged dynamic.
