Buttigieg’s pastor ‘brother-in-law’ calls on 2020 Dem to ‘repent’ for pro-abortion claims

September 9, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Christians are pushing back against 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg for his claim that the Bible suggests human life does not begin until breath, including one critic that hits especially close to home: an evangelical pastor who is also the brother of Buttigieg’s “husband.”

On Friday, Buttigieg, who is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, appeared on the Breakfast Club radio program for an interview with host Lenard "Charlamagne tha God" McKelvey, where he tried to make the case that President Donald Trump and the Republican Party are the ones who actually fall short of Christian teaching due to their positions on economics and healthcare, but “hold everybody in line with this one kind of piece of doctrine about abortion.”

“Then again, you know, there’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath,” he countered. “And so even that is something that we can interpret differently.”

Pro-lifers assailed Buttigieg’s claim for twisting Scripture and ignoring science to justify abortion, particularly the idea that Genesis 2:7’saccount of God creating Adam – “Then the Lord God formed a man(a) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” – is representative of how every subsequent human being came into existence (long-settled biological criteria establishes that a living human being is created upon fertilization).

Among the critics was Rhyan Glezman, a Michigan pastor who is also the brother of Buttigieg’s “husband” Chasten.

"I feel a sense of responsibility and stewardship of my faith to stand up and say something, to say, 'No, that's not true,'" Glezman told the Washington Examiner. "God places a very high value on all human life. Everyone is created fearfully and wonderfully in the image of God with intrinsic value. That doesn't start at the first breath, it starts when we enter our mother's womb."

"If we're going to say we're for all people and we love all people, but we don't value human life in the womb, that's being a hypocrite,” Glezman continued on Buttigieg’s “outrageous” use of Scripture. “You're hypocritical if you don't stand up for all life. So that's why I'm speaking out."

Glezman went so far as to call Buttigieg a “modern-day pharisee,” who has “manipulated” and “weaponized” Scripture in the name of politics, and is “making up their own rules and regulations and, basically, if we don't celebrate and endorse their interpretation of Scripture, our religion is fallible.”

"This isn't a little issue, especially when we're talking about life," he declared. "This is not just a political conversation. We're talking about human life. These are human beings." Glezman added that he considered the entire 2020 Democrat presidential field “very anti-life” and “very anti-God.”

The Bible repeatedly condemns “murder” and “shed(ding) innocent blood” as “detestable to” the Lord, because “in the image of God has God made mankind.”

Glezman added that he loves both Pete and Chasten, but hopes the South Bend mayor will “repent from teaching these false claims of Christianity; that he would just have an absolute encounter with God. ... Anyone who makes those claims, anyone who's going to weaponize the (Bible) in that way, I would say to anyone that you need to repent. This is leading people astray and it's very, very dangerous."

He claims life of a baby begins with its first breath using Genesis, but John the Baptist leaped in Elizabeth's womb when the mother of our Lord came to visit. He was very much a living soul.

Luke 1:41 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

That’s true but I don’t think that jailing women is the answer which is where the pendulum was last month.

This is not the first time he’s wrongly divided the Word of God with a Ginsu knife.

He was promoting that social Gospel devoid of Christ as Suffering Servant.

who has “manipulated” and “weaponized” Scripture [for political purposes]

Well said. That's exactly what the mayor has been doing since Day One, beginning with his unprovoked attack on Pence, who as governor of the mayor's state, Indiana, got along with him fine until that day.

That’s true but I don’t think that jailing women is the answer which is where the pendulum was last month.
That brings up a good point. Law is a difficult, though necessary, way to solve problems like this. It's going to take a lot of thought and discussion to come up with the right societal way forward. But at least we ought to be honest about the science behind the issue, or no helpful discussion is ever going to happen. The mayor is not being honest.

No surprises, he has to in order to justify himself.

Yes you just can’t make this stuff up. Apparently this brother (Gletzen) of Mayor Pete’s partner called him on the notion that Chasten was thrown out on the street when he came out gay.

Which the pastor confirmed was not the case.

No surprises. Here’s a bit on Mayor Pete’s religious leanings:

"Progressive" faith and social gospel
Buttigieg's "faith journey" begins with father, who studied to become a Jesuit for a time, and although the elder Buttigieg later became irreligious, and in his memoir, "Shortest Way Home," "Mayor Pete" credits Catholicism with awakening his moral conscience, "as a voice for the oppressed and downtrodden," which he sees homosexuals as. However, as a proponent of The Federal Equality Act, Buttigieg supports persecuting those who uphold the rejecting the incontrovertible Biblical teaching that only condemns homosexual relations and only joins male and female in marriage, as the Lord Jesus Himself specified.[78][79]

Later, as a student at Harvard University, Buttigieg heard the famed homosexual preacher and proxy Peter Gomes, expound on so-called "progressive Christianity," and as a consequence Buttigieg attests, "I began to understand the range of Christian traditions beyond the Catholicism I was steeped in at South Bend," and wrote columns in the Harvard Crimson that exhorted liberals to seize the moral high ground (as perversely defined by him) from conservatives. However, as R. Albert Mohler (president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky) states, "Progressive Christianity necessitates replacing Christianity with an entirely new religion." "Mayor Pete is just the latest prophet of this new religion. He won't be the last.

Studying at Oxford (England) on a Rhodes scholarship, Buttigieg stated the program was "decidedly atheistic" and which he found convincing in many ways. However, wanting some sort of spirituality, he attended services at Anglican Christ Church, which was across from the college. After moving back to South Bend, Indiana, he began began attending services at the Cathedral of St. James, which is part of the Episcopal church (the American branch of Anglicanism), and which has become known as a forerunner of "progressive" (meaning unbiblical) theology, electing the adulterer and homosexual Gene Robinson its first openly homosexual bishop and voting to allow same-sex marriages in 2003. At that local church Buttigieg "married" his boyfriend, Chasten Glezman, in June 2018, and the readings included including a passage from the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage and an excerpt from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount[80] (which was another case of Buttigieg misappropriating Scripture in order to justify what it condemns).

Consistent with the liberal social gospel, which gives a low priority to the teachings of Christ (while marginalizing the teachings of Paul etc. which were inspired by the Spirit of Christ) on personal moral purity in preference to acts such as feeding the (genuinely) needy, Buttigieg criticized right-wing Christians for "saying so much about what Christ said so little about, and so little about what he said so much about." Which, like Barack Obama, indicates ignorance of the totality of what Christ taught and how He did so, and the context of His social actions and the principals of sound interpretation,[81] as well as the evidence that the evangelical church encourages sacrificial giving to help others, and that evangelicals engage in has been very substantially engaged in providing humanitarian aid,[82] as their members give more per person than those of other major groups.[83]

More.

I guess when you have beat the Bible in Court one time, (Homosexual marriage) it really isn't a big thing to attempt a second win. (Abortion)

The Homosexual community is on a roll, they feel as though they can change everything to be as twisted as they are.

It is one thing for Rev. Glezman to say that his brother-in-law is unfit to be president because he is pro-choice and gay.

It is another thing to do this:

Glezman regularly tweets favorable messages about President Donald Trump.
Rhyan Glezman: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

As a member of the clergy, he should not be endorsing any particular candidate for president, nor should he be commenting about the unfitness of his brother-in-law to be president. As the leader of a tax-exempt organization, he should discuss issues without discussing candidates, and he should never tell his parishioners---or the entire country on a radio show---not to vote for a particular candidate.

I think I am beginning to understand why Chasten was homeless living in his car for a period of time during college :(

He said nothing of the kind. He took aim at the extremist late term abortion policy.

Another less inflammatory way of defining "extremist late term abortion policy" is "pro-choice."

Chasten has said he was homeless. I imagine his brother may be embarrassed over his family's temporary rejection of his brother, particularly since he is a clergyman.

The similarity Chasten and his brother share is that both seem to have a certain degree of charm. The difference that they have is that, although they are both Christian, Chasten belongs to the Episcopal Church and his brother belongs to a non-denominational church, and the way they interpret the gospel message of Jesus differs.

There are always two sides to a family story:

Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s hubby Chasten is attacked for family ‘lies’ by anti-gay brother

Chasten belongs to the Episcopal Church and his brother belongs to a non-denominational church, and the way they interpret the gospel message of Jesus differs.
There is only One Gospel. And I don't see Mayor Pete preaching it.

1 Corinthians 15: NASB

1Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Which any first year seminary student can take to task. Adam was created an adult and God created man and woman to procreate the generations.

It's the usual eisegesis of these self proclaimed theologians that omit facts which get in the way of their assertions.

Isn't that something. Mayor Pete is "preaching" a kinder gentler acceptance from the Bible, but anyone who disagrees with him is taken to task and judged.
