The Simple Life (The Rest) Introduction (found in notes from the 90’s)
-make it the object of our resolution
-the aim of our practical energy
Every movement of humility towards enlightenment and justice is in a reality a movement towards greater simplicity of life.
What are the pleasures of life?
and the higher standards of morality?
The kernel of human progress is moral culture. “there are many external and internal causes that hinder the normal development of character; there are so many hostile forces to crush one, so many illusions to lead one astray that it makes a concert of extraordinary circumstances to render independent character possible” said a quote from somewhere.
Beauty of humanity
Simply, faithfully resigned to duty, accomplishing daily work with tranquil energy which nothing worries or discourages. Toiling in the humble and obscure pathway toward perfection and light.
The morality of the greater number is the only resource by which liberty can live in a democracy by an alliance of effort for moral action.
!! This is a call for independence of character, yet a call to unity in morality!!
The Paradox.
What is essential? What is secondary?
On this earth ~ as in heaven
Ephesians 5:27 bringing the church to the throne undefiled
……………29 for no man hates his own body
Mary from Magdela was given the commission to bring the message. But not until He had ascended. Why? Because the Spirit wasn’t assigned to the church body until after that. Are women treated with hate within the body ( please keep in mind this was written in the 90’s but is still somewhat - in whatever sence- true today)
Let’s compare that with the seven fruit of the Spirit
self control ~ do men exercise self-control to love the body?
love ~ is love shown toward women in the body?
humility ~ humiliation is much more the norm
joy ~ women have been robbed of much of their joy, and goodness and peace, and faithfulness, and patient, and kindness toward them.
The law that Paul spoke of that women keep silent in the gatherings of His people can be found nowhere else in the bible. Why? Because it is of the traditional laws that Jesus condemned. In fact all of Ephesians 5:18-21 is of ethical content that conform with the standards of the times.
Ephesians 5:29 …. nourishes and cares for the body just as Christ does the church.
18:21 don’t get drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit singing, psalms & hymns among yourselves, making melody of heart, giving thanks to God the Father at all times.
everything in the name of Jesus Christ.
Everyone wants to feel joy
How can we feel happiness
People say they are happy when their desires are fulfilled
Take a moment to think about it.
It starts when you
live for the sake
of others
Thru living for the sake of
someone else we show our
love and respect of them.
Wouldn’t a world where all people
were loved and respected be a
peaceful and happy world.
True love is not receiving
it is when you first give for
the sake of the whole
That is the root of true love.
