I wasn't talking about Sondrestrom which isn't am active airbase anymore anyway. I was talking about Thule which is host to many NORAD sensors.

I was thinking about something a whole lot more expansive than a single airstrip in the middle of glaciers. Notice I mentioned air defense a couple of times. Thinking along to lines of ICBM and ballistic intercept.

And Thule is the home to an Early Ballistic Warning system. We don't need to have actual missiles there as long as we have the heads up it's coming. Any strategic advantage we gain from owning Greenland will be canceled out by having to protect it.

could have something to do with Hans Island....a hotly contested knoll between Canada and Denmark that has led to both countries sabre rattling with flag raisings and blood boiling posturings such as leaving bottles of whiskey and schnapps to show territorial claim

The $700 million seems to be what Denmark has to spend on Greenland yearly. I don't know that Trump has offered a figure for what he might be willing to spend.

No we aren't. We have sensors there to aid in defense of the US, but that is not the same thing as protecting it's territorial integrity, which we would be responsible for if it was US soil.
