Hi Everyone I need help. I recently started learning about other faiths as well as educating myself in the sciences. After lots of research I have really found myself questioning my once unshakeable belief.
I just can no longer understand with all the evidence in front of us how I can continue to believe in a Christian God. I was reading about Islam the other day and couldn't believe that anyone would believe that nonsense and it hit me... do people think the same about us?!
I really don't know what to do with myself, please help.

All the so-called evidence in the world, of the world, that opposes Jesus , is falsified.

THus, reject all that opposes Jesus, and turn fully to God at once for help, do all that God says to do, and immediately peace and joy and eternal life with Him is the result. (God Willing)

It is not unusual, when people begin to study other religions and points-of-view, to have doubts creep in about their own faith.

We become instinctively more broadminded. However, appreciating the good in some other faith or discipline does not mean concluding that they are all-round equally valid.

Take your new knowledge and move next to a deeper study of your own faith. Study the Bible and commentaries on the Bible. It is unlike the sacred writings of all other religions whose sacred texts are mainly inspirational, but not truly historical or revelation. Most others don't even claim to be divine revelation in nature.

It has been challenged repeatedly only to be found to be true after all. If it is true, it proves Christianity.

how I can continue to believe in a Christian God.
You might not be thinking of God who sent His own Son to reach us and so suffer and die for us, so we may have eternal life and share with Jesus and one another in all the good of God.

And you might not be talking about the God who personally corrects us His children so we share in His own holiness in His love's "peaceable fruit of righteousness" > Hebrews 12:4-14.

And possibly you are not talking about our Heavenly Father who desires to personally rule every one of us > "in one body" > in His own peace >

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

And if you think you could give up on your faith, do you mean beliefs . . . or "faith working through love"? (in Galatians 5:6)

God is personal with us, "in our hearts" > Romans 5:5 says God shares His own love with us who are His children >

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5)

So, have you experienced this God who is so deeply personal with every one of His children? Or, are you talking about some being that is theoretical and distant?? Satan is the one who is distant, and who has people in confusion and self-righteous criticizing and anger and arguing and frustration and slavery to dominating and dictatorial drives for pleasure and excitement . . . trying to use pleasure to keep them from feeling the misery and mess of their sin.

But Jesus gives us "rest for your souls," we have in Matthew 11:28-30.

I would not give up on this God, but trust Him to prove Himself to you, personally. But do know you will need to deny yourself > Luke 9:23-24. And we need to carry our cross of Jesus Christ's love having hope for any and all people > "if you love those who love you, what reward have you?" (in Matthew 5:46)

God wants us, also, to be so personally caring as family, while we reach with hope to others, that they may become adopted with us.

So, do you mean you want to give up on this???? Or, do we really need to give up on trusting Satan and his cruel stuff of fears and pleasure seeking which keep us weak so we can keep on suffering and struggling. With God, we can be snuggling :groupray:

God is to be seen throughout the sciences, after all he created everything and thus created the sciences you are studying. This shouldn't cause you to have a crisis of faith but should rather reaffirm it.

No one yet has been able to refute the evidence of a bodily resurrection or all the fulfilled prophecies concerning Jesus prophecied hundreds of years before their fulfillment.

That is why it is called faith...there will be many times in your lifetime of faith, been on my journey since 1977, that you will have to reach into your soul or spirit depending on the circumstances and pull out the faith to believe what seems unbelievable. However, down deep within people who know Christ just have that thing inside them that assures them it is true, it is called the witness of the Holy Spirit.

do people think the same about us?!

Of course they do.

Get back deep into the Word of God ... if the sheep go wandering around then they get lost ... or worse yet consumed.

with all the evidence

What evidence? Science? Science constantly changes as new discoveries are made ... they don't know it all and never will (they work on theories) and there are many of them ... the universe is too vast to even conceive. People debate over evolution ... this turned into that ... etc. it goes way beyond that .... the answers are ultimately in the cosmos ... the one thing that science and creation agree .... it started in the cosmos. Science will never prove anything physically in regard to "the beginning" because mankind is unable to journey out to the vast distances of what we can see, much less that which we can not see.

So which of those many scientific theories will you choose to believe?

So really, the conversation of this turned into that is really quite futile.

Go look at astrophysics and such and get out of the zoo. ;o)

and God .... does He exist? Physically un-improvable as well ... but very much provable spiritually and one believes and experiences that ... or not.

May you return to the truth of Gods Word. Amen.

Find a Protestant Church where you live.
The majority of your beliefs are based in Traditions, Rituals.

You need to come to the knowledge of what the Bible actually says without all of the embellishments.

If you have had a genuine relationship with Jesus, He will give you the evidence of His existence. You need to focus on those thing that God has done in your life. If God has not done anything then I would doubt that you have ever really seen God. If it is the case that you have not seen God in any real tangible way, you need to start to pray for it, and seek God with a whole heart. Not just seek knowledge. Knowledge will not lead you any where, because there are so many lies in the world, there is no way to decern the truth.

My heart goes out to you, this is not a comfortable place to be. You rec'd lots of good posts on this crisis and all I can add is my own testimony. I searched, tried, explored even tried an eclectic mix. I personally believe that each religious practice has a little of the truth. But Christianity is not a religion for me. It is my life. Knowing that God knew me in my Mother's womb, knowing that He had a plan for me, knowing that He cares and has been there all of my life for me and living a life that follows Jesus under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is for me. I look back and see how He worked things together for my good, even though it didn't seem so at the time and may have been really tough. I know how amazing it is to have joy and peace in the midst of troubling and difficult times in my life. (I also have seen that in other people and been amazed). I live today trying to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and fail but still know I am loved and my Father waits to talk with me in prayer. Looking toward my future-I do not know what is ahead, what tomorrow holds, but I do know Who holds tomorrow. It is my Lord and Savior, my God, my Father and I know that I will live forever/eternity in His presence when my time on earth is done. I am praying for you to find His peace, His joy, His love and His way. For me there is no other way.

Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically. (wikipedia)

Tacitus referred to Christ and his execution by Pilate in book 15 of his work Annals. Scholars generally consider Tacitus' reference to the execution of Jesus to be both authentic and of historical value as an independent Roman source. (wikipedia)

There is virtually no doubt that Jesus existed, taught, and was crucified. You cannot really argue that Jesus is not a genuine historical figure.

Now for the resurrection of the Christ which is for us the critical event.

Please read the following written by an eye witness.

1 Corinthians 15:3-8
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.

These five hundred witnesses of the risen Christ, I believe confirms the fact, that Jesus did in fact rise from the dead, and prove His divine claim.

Paul would not have told the Corinthians that Christ rose and that the resurrected Christ had been observed by so many people, unless the event had actually happened. Otherwise Paul would have been exposed as a liar to the Corinthian church and Christian history would probably not even exist.

The resurrection of the Christ is something that no amount of education in any scientific disciplines. Will ever allow anyone to deny this fact of the resurrection of the Christ.

Just so. Tacitus referred to Christ and his execution in the final volume of his Annals, written long after the events in question. The volumes covering years AD29 to 32, when they happened, are missing.

You may need to take that up with wikipedia.

I seriously doubt whether the historicity of the Christ can ever be seriously questioned. In the first few centuries there is no evidence of any claims that the Christ never existed. Nor would the Roman historians have even bothered to comment on a fictional Christ, or a Christ whose existence was ever doubted.

The supernatural claims that Christ made and performed may be debated to some degree, but not the historical authenticity of the life of the Christ.

The world in that era was fairly well connected and the facts concerning the Christ, could have been verified by virtually any of these churches over time.

The churches that existed in the first century such as the Roman church for example, would have sought further supporting evidence of the Christ.

The life and events that surrounded the actual life of Jesus Christ are virtually guaranteed.

There would have been a flow of these observers, these witnesses of the Christ through these churches over time.

Thank you for your honesty about your struggle and for reaching out for help. That's what fellowship of believers is all about.

I wish I knew which famous scientist said, "A drop of science will make you doubt God, but a cup of science will make you worship Him." That's probably not an exact quote but it's close.

It's good to ask questions and more questions and lots more questions. God LOVES our questions and science actually proves, over and over, His existence and daily intervention in our lives.
Unfortunately, many of those who call themselves "scientists" today aren't accepting what is right in front of them. They torture the evidence into showing what they want it to say, almost always going against all logic. That is not science, but it's what is taught in most schools.

I have found that every doubt thrown at me, by atheistic scientists, has eventually proved God is right and that the Bible is correct.

What, specifically, is giving you problems?

Hey... I used to follow Islam before I was saved, and it was a LOT of study and thought and prayer and a spiritual sledgehammer upside my head before I became saved..

But when I came to the faith I came running and knowing exactly who God and Jesus was, and was not..

just under 5 years in I now have a fairly solid grasp on scripture, although I'm still learning, and still conforming to the image of Christ, but I'm getting there slowly but surely

Do people from the outside looking in think Christians are a strange lot.. lol.. yes - but nice anyway for the most part.

But you know what? What on earth does what others think of you and your faith make any difference about?

Are you going to stop worshiping the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because some atheist thinks your dumb?

Does being eternally separates from God sound like a good trade for a better reputation with men?

I am hated by those I love most.. it's not changing my stance any, I know what's true and I will die on this belief..

forget others, you do you.... If you have questions or doubts, pray and invest in some solid Bible study.. I spend an hour every morning in prayer and reading scripture.. and I spend some time here, and sometimes ill listen to a sermon before bed or read from a known or trusted Pastor...

If your not spending daily time, even just 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night, studying the word of God and praying, then you are chancing going backward in your faith.

If you don't do any regular maintenance to your car it breaks down eventually, that's what your doing right now, breaking down spiritually because instead of investing time with God to hear from HIM and learn what He wants to tell you, your spending time with Satan...

not going to end well really unless you back up and get back into a relationship with God.
