Just like the apostle Paul did, we also need to keep on nailing our sins to the cross, burn those bridges of idolatry in our lives, and press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. Choose ye this day whom ye shall serve! As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord (Joshua 24:14-15).

I think this is my exact problem. I've been trying to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24), and it hasn't been working out at all. It's time to choose Jesus once and for all.

It is good to leave that stuff behind. But it might be helpful if you understand why you were ever involved with it in the first place. I can't speak to your exact situation, obviously, but people I know who have dabbled with that stuff have told me that they did so because they were curious/worried about/afraid of the future and wanted to assurances that everything would turn out okay in the end.

I got involved with the occult because I felt like I didn't have much control over my live, and I believed it would make me powerful. The thing is, it just led me into more bondage, to the point where I became addicted to it. The occult really is all a lie - it doesn't set you free at all, it just drags you further down.

What does consider yourself a christian mean.

Well, what I mean is that I gave my life to Jesus years ago, and even though I haven't really been following Him very well, I still believe in Him and His teachings.

Thank you @eleos1954 . I accepted Jesus as my savior years ago, but I haven't been paying much attention to Him. I think I need to rededicate my life to Him, and start truly following Him instead of just paying Him lip service.

Happy you are returning to your first love. Welcome back. ;o)

Jeremiah 24:7

I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

Matthew 22:37
 – Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

Ephesians 3:16-18

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

May the Lord Bless and keep you. Amen

Well i asked that because there are a lot of salvation sayings floating around churches, that really have no basis in the Bible. Did not know if you had came across one of those, you seemed a little uncertain or unsure.

For me i know without a doubt i am a believer, that is i believe that Jesus in the New Testament is the promised Messiah (only begotten/unique Son of God) from Old Testament prophecies. And I trust in Him for His gift of His eternal life. It is to anyone who will trust in The Messiah for eternal life.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

I don't go to church, which is probably one of my biggest problems, honestly.
You need a good church and friends there who are both Godly and wise. They can give you a lot of support that you just can't get on a forum.

Hi everyone. I consider myself a Christian (albeit a backslidden one), but I have a strong attraction and prior involvement (meaning up until yesterday) with the occult (specifically tarot). I want to really get right with God, and leave the occult behind, but I'm finding it hard to let go. Can anyone give me any advice? Thank you.

There are two things to condider:

a) God is a supernatural God, he has always communicated with his people, as a Christian a person can have supernatural experiences, that rival the occult:

1Co 12:7-10 The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit. To others the Spirit has given great faith or the power to heal the sick or the power to work mighty miracles. Some of us are prophets, and some of us recognize when God's Spirit is present. Others can speak different kinds of languages, and still others can tell what these languages mean.

b) The occult will lead you down to hell, God to heaven, the occult is not worth it, follow God instead.

First identify the underlying patterns of what this "occult thing" is.

Then identify something Godly to replace it in terms of life style, bit by bit.

And avoid churches that follow an occult pattern overtly or covertly. I've known churches that claim to be spiritual to be using witchcraft, and also anti-spiritual churches that are doing the same thing ... just in different ways. It's all about discernment for this part.

This is so true. One year, a church in my town held a winter solstice event. I thought "hmm...something's wrong here" I don't think I should pick that church. ^_^

Just do it.

That's the advice :)

So helpful right?
But this really is the answer. You are taking a step in to maturity and adulthood by simply deciding how you want to live your life, once and forever.

Do you believe that walking with G-d will bring you blessing?
Or do you believe the occult will?

None of us can answer that question for you. If we could, we would answer it for everyone, and the occult wouldn't exist.

You, and only you, can make that choice. Now is the time. Make your choice.

There is a video on youtube where a guy who was also involved in the Occult gave his testimony. He actually belonged to a secret society of demon worshipers and he left the week he was to be initiated. He shares his experience and what he did to be free from demonic oppression. The name of the Video is "A Trip Into the Supernatural"
