This past year we had a visiting preacher who used a translation that sounded similar to the KJV. I immediately recognized what it was, but during a Q & A time he was accused of being a hardline KJV only Christian. He immediately denied it and revealed the translation was from one of the founders of our very small and obscure denomination.

Not looking for personal choice, but what Bible versions are found in your pews? I would also assume that is the Bible version your pastor preaches/teaches from as they can say "please turn to page #X."

I know in my church most bring their personal Bible or device with a Bible App.

For my church we use the ESV. I went to a friend's LCMS Lutheran church for the baptism of his twin grandkids. I noticed the ESV in the pews there.

For English, we use the NIV.

Is the Liturgy from the older version or the NABRE?
I can answer that. The liturgy officially approved by the Bishop's conference is out of the old NAB. They probably won't go to the NABRE because of the inclusive language issue.

There is a book named as I recall “God’s Secretaries” about the writing of The King James Version of The Bible. When Christ came to me as a thief in the night, my eyes were opened and my ears could hear. I’ve found over the decades that The KJV has the best language for describing the Spiritual reality of Christ. When your day comes, assuming that it has not yet arrived, your eyes will be opened and your ears will hear only Christ.

I have found the Early Modern English of the KJV is both beautiful and powerful.

This past Sunday I discussed this with our associate pastor when he asked me what Bible version I use to memorize verses and passages. I told him to take any modern version read Psalm 23 and then read it in the KJV. No comparison.

There is no mention in this whole thread of the Good News Bible. I wonder why? This is why I put an agree on the post 51 by carp614 where it was said "The one you read."
I want a Bible which in simple English says something which is immediately understandable and avoids as much as possible the science of hermeneutics, and all of the ensuing debate, even argumentation, a human pre-occupation which is strictly un-Biblical.
In any case, the written words in any Bible, in any language, should not be taken literally. We should all be reaching out to the Word of God, which is a spiritual connection with Jesus, and the written words of man, inspired by God, are merely our guide. There is no reason why all of us who talk or write should not feel that we are not inspired by God. Only God knows.
The apocrypha were not included in the Canon. We're they not inspired by God? I greatly respect scholarship and experience, but when it comes to God it's just Him and me and just one other, in my case my wife.

The readings during services can be in a variety of translations, depending on who is responsible for doing the reading that Sunday, including the ESV, NRSV, NIV and even The Message once ( :-0, ok, actually it wasn't that bad on that passage ).

In our Bible studies though, where the reading is far more extensive, we have a variety also, but usually that variety is only the NRSV, RSV, NIV, ESV, KJV, and Jerusalem, though I can't rule out I've heard another once or twice).

In the church pews is the NRSV, but we don't favor it above others really.

My pastor also uses ESV and is generally what is used in the church.

My bible is ESV, but I've been using both ESV and NKJV extensively as I've noticed I get a better understanding of certain scriptures if I read both.

Never heard of the Get it Right Translation. Is that another name for the NLT?

It my elder's own personal translation, mainly used to explain what is being conveyed in the Hebrew/Greek when we follow along with our own translations.

I didn’t know they still published the Good News Bible. We used that for nursing home Bible study when I was a teen many moons ago.

My small paperback copy is falling to pieces. I bought it in 1980. I now read it online, I can make the print much larger.
Thank you for your possible explanation.
