I think it's quite hard to say.
Clearly we're not made physically like God because God isn't bound by space-time (due to existing before the creation of the universe billions of years ago) but rather God can take a form of a man or humanoid figure such as Christ in the Old and New testament.
I also believe that the case for morality and self-awareness falls apart to with modern research. Though I agree that humans are more deeper understanding of morality, our primates and other animals clear show some forms of right and wrong (though incredibly limited and to my own knowledge only within their own species).
Selection of tool diameter by New Caledonian crows Corvus moneduloides. - PubMed - NCBI shows that animals I smart enough to use tools for a situation.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0047248481800164 shows that some primates have self-awareness.
In addition only humans are said to be in the image of God Psalm 17:15 for example.
Angels are never mentioned to be in the image of God despite knowing right from wrong and being smart creatures. Thus I can't see the argument for morality or intelligence.
The word soul "nephesh" is used for humans in Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 1:20 for animals.
The word for spirit "neshamah" ( I think) is used for both humans and animals in Genesis 7:22.
The word for body is "basar" and is used for humans in Genesis 9:15 and animals repeatedly in the first part of Genesis 41.
Furthermore we were created on the same day as animals during the Genesis account of creation (though of course it didn't happen over six literal days). We were not given a separate day.
Personally, I would say that the image of God would probably mean our role given to us by God. To be stewards and representative on him in this physical universe.
When Abraham was chosen to be God's representative on Earth, he wasn't created but given the role and when the nations of Judah and Israel became sinful and forgot the Lord, he took away his relationship with them. They weren't created or destroyed as such by the roles were.
