How not to think about lust?
Say out loud or in your thoughts: "Get away from me satan".
Pray to God that he helps you resist.
We can do nothing on our own. Only by the power of God we can resist.

When I came to God, I began to be disgusted by lust and inappropriate content. Like everyone else, you struggle for a long time, trying to help yourself.
But when you have Jesus, you hate these things.

Trying to block inappropriate content pages, or delete your incognito, or stay off your inappropriate content watching devices. Trying to force yourself to stop watching. These won't work.
There is only one solution, that is denying yourself to Jesus.

"Resisting" will one day build to the point that you will blow it all, and feel even worse than you do today. The only real answer is doing what Jesus said to do, "renew your mind." If you are still here later on, I will elaborate some on that, and show you the best "answer" I have found.

Very difficult to resist temptations of lust. We are human after all and very much attracted to the opposite sex. It is an ongoing battle for me. One i fight daily. One i confess to very regularly. What advice can a loser like me give? None, except, keep returning to God no matter how many times you fall.

How to resist inappropriate content?

The eyes are the gateway to the heart and the heart is desperately wicked.

Pretty simple. Don't watch it.

Luke 11:34

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness.

1 John 2:16

16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Psalm 16:8

8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

If you just can't stop no matter what you do...

Pray a lot, cry out to God, until he does something about it...
An as a side benefit, your relationship with God will grow.

Paul said his body was one of death, that he did the very things he didn't want to do, but he closes saying that 'who is going to free me from this body of death?' 'thanks i give to Jesus.'

Assuming you and your spouse are physically able, make a commitment to have some kind of sex every day for 30 days. Redirect your lust in a healthy way.
In a way, you are leaning in the right direction…. sort of. Nothing negative intended, but you really do have to be a man to get this totally. Believe it, or not, men don't really see relationships as just physical.

First, replace the word “inappropriate content” with “sin” and realize you are no more of a sinner than anyone else. inappropriate content/lust is just another weakness. Everyone has them, some are simply more visible than others. The people who categorize inappropriate content as some kind of a “super-sin” are those who don’t struggle with it.

Secondly, turn the problem over to God. Study his word and strive to be more like Jesus. It would also be helpful to get with a trusted Christian friend or pastor and share what you are going through. It’s easier to get through these struggles with support. There is also help for inappropriate content addiction. You can google about it.

Lastly, don’t get discouraged if you are not “cured” overnight. If you stumble, pray, repent, and start over.

Whether or not lust, per se, is "embedded in our DNA", we know that we are by nature sinful. You cannot just grit your teeth and resist. The Bible says "Whoever continues to sin becomes a slave to sin." Who came to set us free? The Savior, and only He can make you strong enough to resist.

If you are very healthy, try a once a week water only fast with prayer.. Too much fasting is stressful for the adrenals, so don't go beyond that. Besides that in and of itself will be a great help. If fasting is a problem, that does not mean you are without help through prayer and worship.

The book and website Every Man's Battle has been a wonderful help to others. (There is also one such book for women since you don't list your gender.)

How to resist inappropriate content?

Unfortunately, the absolute best way to avoid any sin, of any type... is to not start. It is a ton easier to avoid smoking, by never starting to smoke. Once you start, it is hard to quit.

so anyone can resist inappropriate content. It is simply a matter of choice. You have to decide.

If you need help... there are difficult ways to do it. Put some inappropriate content blocking software on your computer, and change the password to something crazy, and don't write it done. Password "asdngoiniovbnhdlhf" and don't write it down.

Or move your computer so that the screen faces the window, and open the blinds. Trust me, you won't go to a inappropriate content site, when everyone in the neighborhood can see your computer screen from the sidewalk.

But the point is, you have to make the choice to do something crazy to finish this addiction off.
