1 Corinthians 2:10, 13 These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
God moved heaven and earth to save His people. He took on flesh, John 1:14 shed His blood, resurrected, ascended to heaven, and even now watches over us through the Holy Spirit. Even so, many people misunderstand salvation.
1. What are the incorrect views of salvation? Things that are not salvation
1) Thinking that having a religion brings salvation. John 3:1-10 Religion is manmade; therefore, it is not the Gospel. Though they have good intentions, the good deeds of the unsaved cannot truly be good or lead to salvation. It is like a man on a pirate ship. All deeds, good or bad, are in service to piracy.
2) Thinking that enrolling in and attending church (The church building) is proof of being saved. As Jesus said, simply attending church is ineffective. Matthew 12:43-45 and only piles up more burdens.
3) Thinking that diligence is the standard of measurement for salvation. Remember the zeal of the Pharisees? Are not Buddhists also zealous? The result of this zeal is only emptiness and failure. Disappointment
4) Misunderstanding that salvation can be gained through strong convictions. (Philosophies) These convictions bring ridiculous results, and when you are alone, you feel like a failure.
5) Thinking that salvation can be gained by memorizing and reciting religious writings and chants, and by praying. These produce only temporary, external change, never internal change. Jesus explains the solution and invites those suffering under “religious” living to come to Him. Matthew 11:28-30
2. Then, what is the state of being saved?
1) there is inner (Spiritual) change.
2) The Holy Spirit dwells within you and governs you.
3) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of life. Romans 8:2 You cannot enter God’s kingdom unless you are born again by water and the Holy Spirit. John 3:3-5
4) The Holy Spirit, the Truth, can neither leave you or nor be cast out from you. John 14:16-17
5) When you understand the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the following evidence come:
(1) the Holy spirit meets the requirements of salvation and fulfils the law. Roman 8:2,4,9
(2) you come to know God’s will, blessings, and grace. 1 Corinthians 2:10-14
(3) you come to know that you are God’s temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16
(4) the Holy Spirit fixes the things that are incorrect. Galatians 5:16-18
(5) the Holy Spirit guides you because you are weak. John 14:26-27
(6) He leads you in peace. John 14:27
(7) He answers prayers. Romans 8:26
