It's not uncommon to find Mainline Protestants who are in same-sex marriages. I suspect he'd want to execute them too, so I would not frame this as Christian hostility towards non-Christians.

That's true. There's alot of mainline Protestants that would find that sort of thing very problematic, and not at all typical of our religion.

In a theocracy, conflicts internal to a religion are at least as bloody as conflicts between religions--see Catholicism vs. Protestantism in past centuries, and Sunni vs. Shi'a Islam even today.

The English Civil War was essentially between various Protestant factions who actually had a great deal in common (they were all broadly Reformed), they only really differed in terms of their practice.

I looked it over. It's kind of silly, but why should minority religions in the US be worried about it?
It says “no idolatry” and “must obey biblical law” and “kill al males” if the enemy doesn’t comply.

It is a manifesto on the conduct of war. Most of the things he lists are from the old testament.

I don't see how any American could be afraid of how America should conduct war, even if it is only this guy's opinion.

Admittedly I only glossed over the thing. Does it say somewhere that America is going to start a war with other Americans?
No, it sounds like a religious war not necessarily related to the government. Can you imagine if that were all in the name of Islam? If it proposed going to war and killing people who didn’t follow the Koran?

It is not for a religious war. It's the conduct of any war.

Is apparently a thing: GOP Lawmaker Matt Shea Releases Christian Manifesto Calling For Biblical Law

The manifesto: http://ftpcontent.worldnow.com/khq/SHEAWAR.pdf

I hope everyone in this subforum is ready for "Biblical War" (whatever that is?), if not refer to section 10/c/ii of the manifesto: if they do not yield -- kill all males.

You must be thinking; surely this was written by some random internet lunatic, yeah? NO! It's written by a REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE OF WASHINGTON STATE, PEOPLE ELECTED THIS GUY. Presumably based on his positions and beliefs.

I often hear that minority religions and non-religions are protected in America and that Christians never mean any harm, they simply think we are wrong and invasive. While we do have resoundingly good protections in America compared to other countries, this is a stark reminder to Americans that Christian sentiment towards non-Christians can not only be hostile but suggestive of violence. Matt Shea believes that America is a "Christian nation" which appears to largely support his belief about imposing Biblical law.

This sounds like a rehash of Christian Reconstructionism. It's the idea that a righteous nation will be exclusively Christian, and its civil law will follow God's biblical law to the letter. Christian theonomy is another term. It holds that the Bible is the standard to which all laws should conform. The intellectual forefather of this notion was a Calvinist pastor, Rousas Rushdoony. One of the pre-eminent religious crackpots of the late 20th century.

In a perverse way, there is a certain logic to it, if you're a staunch, 5 point Calvinist (so called "TULIP" Calvinism.) The "T" stands for total depravity. The belief is that man is totally depraved due to original sin. He is so lost in sin that he is unable to choose faith in Jesus by his own will. Anyone who does accept Jesus must have been selected by God, and was granted faith and salvation by God's grace. And extending the total depravity angle means that any laws created by sinful, reprobate men are also depraved. The only perfect law is what God gave to Moses. So a righteous and godly society must only follow biblical law. No exceptions allowed. Calvinist thinking is pretty dark. Which I'm sure is why it's never been widely accepted. And this is Calvinism on steroids.

After all of the men are put to death, what happens to the women they were married to?
Good question. If the author has Deuteronomy 20:14 in mind, then the cattle and I are part of the plunder. :( That's assuming Mr. Shea is planning to invade the land of Canaan under the direct command of God, and that Mrs. Shea doesn't mind if Mr. Shea starts a harem. The document isn't totally clear on that point.

You know, I've gone back to the manifesto several times now, reading it a little deeper each time. On the one hand, as I look at the document, I can not believe what I'm reading! I have to ask myself, "Is it real?" Than I start realizing that "Yes", I can very easily see someone thinking in that kind of way in today's world". Even our leaders.

PEOPLE ELECTED THIS GUY
Democracy and holding elections is no safeguard that quality people will come to power. It is essentially a popularity contest after all. Remember, the village idiot has as much say as Aristotle - and there are far more idiots than there are Aristotles.

Hitler and the Nazis were democratically elected before taking complete control via voted emergency powers. The US did the Trail of Tears and the internment of Asians in WWII. The Sri Lankan government has been systematically stripping its Tamil minority of rights by democratic means - then crushing them after they revolted - a classic tyranny of the majority.

That is why the ancients advised a Polybian mixture of systems; of monarchy, oligarchy and democracy; to which Polybius ascribed Roman success. For monarchy leads to tyranny, oligarchy to corruption, and democracy to mob rule. The US founding fathers listened, so tried to institute checks and balances on the natural tendency toward either extreme. Regardless, the various divisions accrue power over time, and without correction will fall into one of them. This merely illustrates the danger of too much of a direct democratic element. People won't necessarily elect the best people - in fact, by the rule of Cincinnatus, anyone that desires power should probably be denied it - so the very act of standing for election is potentially a mark against their suitability to hold that office.

But as they say, [Representational and Constitionally limited] Democracy is the worst form of government, except for the others that have been tried. We are all still waiting for some system that can consistently give us that much desired Philosopher-King. Anyone that can climb the greasy pole of politics probably shouldn't really be up there - greatness mostly emerges when thrust upon someone unwillingly, and they'd rather go back to their plough.

the laws of a nation will reflect the values of a culture. The people in the 1930's had the wisdom to put in a standard of censorship that protected the society from vulgar language, voyerism, lust and introducing antiheros and showing the methods of crime, drug use and always made those who were living dark lives an example of what you would not want to be like. These standards are gone and now we fill our minds with garbage our grandparents or great great grand parents had a 0 tolerance for and this standard held until the 1960's. We see America used the Bible to settle legal disputes until the idea of case law came in and previous cases were then set up to set precedents. The left is setting up laws that grieve the right which includes a lot of Christians.
This push back is a normal reaction to counter the threat. The tension is escalating and people who understand the history of war conclude there is no compromise and bracing away from the current tensions and in fact it is on a escalating curve with violence in the near future. It is the same situation in many European countries only the two sides will be nationals vs immigrants. This is a house divided against itself cannot stand. The real thing to watch for is who is instigating the fight. Like last week antifa vs the proud boys. The antifa guys followed the proud boys and started the fight but the proud boys won and in the media they took the blame. We are heading toward the 70th week of daniel and the tribulation. We should be praying and sharing the gospel with all and as many who come to Christ will share the Biblical standard. Also those who name the LORD as LORD need examine our standards and get rid of all compromise. God's standards are certainly higher than our grandparents and we need to be as counter cultural as possible and live simply loving one another even our enemies.

So long as there's also a clause in there for also smiting all the non-virgin females, but keeping the virgin females for potential concubines, at least he's being consistent (Numbers 31). Oh - and don't forget taking possession of the livestock. ;)

Actually, it is NOT "a thing."

And the various Liberal news-sites that reported it, plus the OP, appear to have taken care in the wording to imply that the man in question, Matt Shea, is more than he is--a member of Congress maybe. In fact, he is one person with a screwball idea and he is a State Representative, not a Congressman or even a State Senator. He is one of two State Representatives who represent one of 49 different districts in the legislature.

But notice how he is called by the awkward and uncommon terms, "GOP Lawmaker" and/or "Representative of Washington State" in order to suggest that he speaks for or represents a lot of people. He is neither of those.

So chances are good that there wont be a "Biblical War" after all. ;)

Yep, in fact I attended such a wedding at a Lutheran church this summer for a step brother and it was a wonderful affair. In many ways I have more in common with liberal Christians then conservative non-Christians, so its not always about religious belief for me. I think @PloverWing's converse of my statement applies equally well in light of this.
Hi you can have a lot in common with them but why and where do these values of equality and tolerance and acceptance come from? Here is a prophet prediction by Anton Lavey who spoke about the influence of TV on the culture with a clear goal in mind and a clear opponent in mind. Read these quotes by Lavey knowing who he is (author of the Satanic Bible)
Anton LaVey was the founder of the Church of Satan. He died on October 30th, 1997, and unfortunately, because God's church is the sleeping giant, LaVey's followers and his agenda to desensitize Christians through the media, lives on.
Here are some astonishing quotes of his;
"The Tv set (is the) Satanic family altar."

"Television is the major mainstream infiltration for the new satanic religion."

"It should be brought out that we not only condone, but encourage all types of what would be called sexual perversity and deviations because we feel that in a few short years it will be established that everyone is a sexual deviant and pervert.

In the Satanic Bible, "LaVey explained that he was moved to establish the Church of Satan when he saw the need for a church that would "recapture man's body and carnal desires as objects of celebration."

"The Church of Satan preaches a religious system that endeavors to overcome the repressions and inhibitions of human instinctual behavior it believes has been fostered by the Judeo-Christian tradition."

These tolerant churches with rainbow flags at pride festivals should wonder why their actions are in line with Laveys philosophy. Furthermore they should wonder what doctrines are being talked about in the last days as both not endured and taught as doctrines of demons. I tim I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at[fn] His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. Rev “Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow[fn] that woman[fn] Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce[fn] My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.
You see you cannot create God in your own image one that switches the standard God holds for a new one. Like Eve was beguiled in the garden so too have we been deceived. We took prayer and corporal punishment out of the schools at the same time we got rid of the Hayes code. Our schools have since turned into nests of drug use, suicidal kids, gangs and now even the occult. As we embrace the philosophy also of Satan do what though wilt is the whole of the law; we see chaos around us. You cannot serve two masters and your tree is not reflecting the Bible which is Jesus coming to the woman caught in adultery and then saying to her where are your accusers? I do not condemn you but go and sin no more. This is the message we need for all men, repentance for forgiveness. This is our hope.

The patriot fever is another bundle of kindling used by corporate backed leaders (follow the money that built Hitler's war machine that used a malleable populace ready for nationalism) easily ignited by a mixture of truth leavened with false information to rationalize war against a scapegoat blamed for their economic woes.
throw in some quilt by association to defuse any whistleblowers revelations of chicanery exposing the real perpetrators in their midst as conspiracy nut balls, or the trick of forming their own opposition with some truth to feed the black sheep of the flocks dissatisfaction with the states policy enslaved to the federal purse strings that require more and more tribute to sustain those privileges that voting mysteriously never fixes, those who have figured out the foreign take over that made the sovereign people surety bond slaves to Caesars legal fictions are sitting back wondering how long it will be before their indemnified.

Christianity is used like all groups to instigate friction by highlighting their extremists to perpetually reinforce those stereotypes, its suggestive programming bombarding the populace born into mental servitude to the craft of governing mentalist behind pulpits and podiums wearing the colors of the initiated.

Are they? That seems to be more insinuation by you. I've never heard a mainline pastor espouse Satanism. Nor do we preach a message of sexual libertinism.

You see you cannot create God in your own image...

This is a message that is just as relevant for all the homophobes out there.

The standard of God that I experienced in Him is "Love"...Infinitely inclusive of ALL of Creation, "Love". Are you suggesting that I switch to something else?

I don't equate the groups who affiliate with the "Christian Identity/Aryan Nations" as bona-fide Christians, which is what your article seems to indicate about Matt Shea. Most mainstream Christians will identify Christian Identity/Aryan Nations as cultic offshoots. So, word to the wise when one is tempted to lump these kinds of knuckle-heads in with mainstream Christians.

Well, actually, no, we don't.

Not even here in this forum could you suggest that another correspondent who identified as Christian Identity wasn't truly a Christian.

And you likely won't hear any politician or Christian media-influencer saying that about Matt Shea.
