It has been some time since I have posted here I have been busy doing other things and truthfully CF has run it course for me. But occasionally I find something that deserves to be posted. the Sabbath debate as I have witnessed it often comes down the the term sabbath vs rest. Particularly when talking about the pre-Mosaic existence of the Sabbath. the term rest is all over Genesis & Exodus prior to the Sabbath-rest appearing in EX 16 and later in EX 20. Some have drawn the conclusion that they are one and the same, others have drawn the conclusion that they are different. He is an explanation of rest in the context of the culture of the ancient near east. This should help clear up things. Ancient Near Eastern Concepts of Divine Rest

The article is incorrect regarding the implied use of Hebrew terms...Shabbat (rest) in Genesis is NOT the same word (rest) in the Deuteronomy 12:10 example given. There are other problems too...

The ancient Egyptians had special holidays and festivals. At least some of their workers may have received days of rest:

You need to explain your objection to the article in more detail. you have just invalidated the whole article with what appears to be a bogus objection.

not a vaild objection. the difference can be seen is using the word, car, automobile and vehicle, they are all different but describing the same or similar concepts. so your objection is moot. The function of the word and its usage in the passage is what needs to be considered. That is what he is talking about.

Then the same word would have been used so my point is not moot

not necessarily, Hebrew is a verb based language, and therefor describes things by what they do, not what they are. It also takes into account Who is doing it. So in one instance, where God is doing the resting, it may use one word and when we are doing the resting it may use another. There are implied differences. That is why context must be considered.
