• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is OCD worse than anxiety?

I've become aware that I'm dealing with three different mental health problems anxiety, depression, and OCD. I recently just became aware of OCD and the more I read it it seems more likely the reason why my anxiety is so presistant. Now I'm wondering if OCD might be the thing to try to get rid of before messing with anxiety and depression. I feel like I've developed each of these issues over time and I'm worried about developing more .ental health problems.

I'm going to try to get in for a mental health assessment. I made an appointment for 2 weeks out. I mean I textbook match every description for pure o, anxiety, and clinical depression so...

I think they are inter-related, that they affect each other. The more anxious you are, the more your OCD will flare up. Ironically, if you start to obsess about getting rid of your OCD, you'll just become more anxious about it - I think; it depends on how you intend to go about it. DBT and "mindfulness training" would probably be helpful for all three.

It seems odd that you should have to learn what gives you peace and joy, but I doubt anyone of us is born knowing it - you have to pay attention (which you should actually be good at). One thing that might help is to write down the good things - with depression, a person tends to forget that there ever were good things, so you may need to remind yourself.

Good luck on your journey. It's not easy, but it should be interesting.

They are kind of a byproduct of OCD for me it's OCD I have pure O. Anxiety happened then I can sink into depression. So they go together.
.

It's really weird. I've never been afraid of anything like I am pure O. I wouldn't even know how to begin to get rid of it cause I'm just scared of having it.

Yea it is scary and people generally don't notice since you will be just in your own thoughts and such. Dont be afraid of the Pure O itself it will only make the ruminations worse. Hang in there!

OCD is an anxiety disorder, so asking if it's worse than anxiety is redundant. To see if you have OCD, get a diagnosis from a psychologist or psychiatrist then discuss treatment options with them.

I also think Pure O is a misnomer. People with 'Pure' O do have compulsions, but they are mostly mental like rumination or asking for reassurance, replacing 'bad' thoughts with good thoughts.

If , on occasion they do take physical forms, it can be in the form of avoiding people, situations, or objects, that trigger intrusive thoughts. Example: if you have intrusive thoughts of stabbing someone, you avoid working with knives.

Searching the internet obsessively for information regarding the theme of your obsession is also common with this type of OCD.

I have it : ( I match what you are talking about exactly. Lately it's been some fear of people thinking I'm looking at them so I am constantly looking away as soon as I see people. It's very strange. I've never had this problem before. A terrible problem to have. I've been trying to do something to help myself by using chamomile, positive affirmations against OCD, and meditation so we will see if it helps at all. Chamomile seems to at least help me not go into complete crying fits where I hyperventilate.

A bigger help often is finding a support group of people who have overcome this, or parly overcome this,
and meet together , what, once or twice a week perhaps ?
Maybe one person who overcame this - search through church(es)? Listings of support groups?
Even meeting someone 'accidentally' (on purpose by God's Design - God's Purpose) talking casually at first at a store or the laundromatt or wherever .....

As soon as you find one or more people who have overcome this, it is (usually) a BIG RELIEF - you are no longer alone in this....

There are perhaps dozens of people on some forums who have overcome this , but it is not allowed to put this in public forum posts here.

Do you think you have it? Or have you been diagnosed by a psychiatrist or psychologist? Self diagnosing is the worst think you can do.
