I didn't hear about it until after it had all happened. I actually didn't believe it at first until multiple news services reported it. When I got to school, everyone was watching coverage on the in-hall tv monitors. My first class that day was a fitting one, psychology.

I was in the living room. I don't remember why I turned the tv on. Someone must have called me. I watched the second plane hit the tower. I just sat down and watched everything unveil as my kids, both under 5 years old, played around the house. I tried to call my husband at work because even though we weren't anywhere near this, I just needed to know he was okay. I walked around in a surreal fog for all that day, and probably a few days later. It was a long time before I didn't feel funny when I saw an airplane in a clear sky.

Getting ready to go to the bus stop for school when I saw the broadcast as I was heading out the door.

Remember most kids finding it funny, and happy that the school day was cut short. Became angry when I saw news clips of people in the middle east celebrating. Learned about the existence of Islam that day.

I was only 5 years old and in my kindergarten class, so I remember nothing. I don't think I understood what was going on, and it's a good thing I didn't or I would have been very scared.

I very faintly remember when my school rose a flag in honor of the 1st anniversary. The earliest anniversaries I remember clearly are my middle school years when we'd have a moment of silence during the morning announcements.

Am I the only one who feels old by 20-somethings saying they were toddlers or in kindergarten on 9/11?

Lol, kind of the reverse for me.. hard to imagine how old some of the posters here were when 9/11 happened. I wasn't in kindergarten then.. yet still in elementary school. Guess I'm sort of in the middle.

I walked into my house after coming home from college and my mum was watching the news and she was very hyped up about it, and then the second plane went into the building, i remember my mum screaming.

I'd just arrived for my class about to start, we had projects to turn in that day. I'd heard there was some commotion at the Pentagon and I'd heard something about a bombing, then we turned the TV in the classroom on to the news on time to see the second tower get hit.

And what do you remember thinking that day?
I was in kindergarten just under six years old. I do not remember any details whatsoever. I remember Veteran's Day 2001 very vividly and remember very vividly September 11, 2002, the one year anniversary.

Was living in Alaska at the time, I believe 6th grade. By the time we woke up it had all happened. My parents woke us and told us school was cancelled. They sat us on the couch and had to explain to us what terrorism was, then they turned on the news and we saw it. I started crying. I think a lot of us lost our innocence that day.

I remember a couple of my friends met up on the trampoline later that day and talked about how much we hated the people who did it. We then talked about how we would fix it proposing ideas like starting an email chain and landing on the idea of making patriotic jewelry and giving the money to NYC. In all the wickedness of that day I'm glad at least we didn't know how helpless we were.

LOL. Nope!

I was on my grandparents farm in southern Idaho packing up their things with my dad after grandma died.

I got a call from my wife who was at our house 400 miles away understandably upset. We had just cancelled the cable a couple of days before so my wife was at the neighbors house.

My immediate thought was praying that it wasn't a widespread attack so I could get home to my family to protect them.

My dad was a police chief at the time and former FBI so we jumped in his truck and hit the highway full speed. We didn't see any images of the attacks until we stopped at a Walmart in Boise 2 hours later.

We were in full survival mode at that point and just grabbed cases of water, some food, and hit the road and headed north.

My dad later joined the Joint Terrorist Task Force and I was a current federal LEO so I spent the next few months working 14 hour days. Had to drop out of college as well.

I remember back then YouTube wasn't around, and I wanted to hear The Pretenders song - My City Was Gone. So I called up the local radio station, requesting it, and the DJ refused to air it because he said it would be too offensive to people. I understand sensitivities, but there comes a point where political correctness is dumb.

Yeah.. remember they actually made the airplanes in Grand Theft Auto: III/Vice City harder to fly because of 9/11. Nearly ruined my child-hood.. lol.

I was in college at the time. I was walking through the student lounge. They had the TV on and I remember seeing 1 of the planes fly into a tower. I really didn't know what was going on at the time because I was late for class and was trying to get there in time. At the time, I didn't realize that it was a terrorist attack or well, I didn't know what was going on until later on that day when more and more kids started to talk about it and then I watched it on the news.
