I have an interest in worshiping the LORD, I also have a great hunger for the WORD of God and I study it every day. I also have an interest in angels. I am the most spiritual one in my family, I don't mean to brag about this, but I am more in tune with GOD and the things of GOD than anyone else in my family.

To stay on topic: My church already has a worship ministry so I can't step up to the position. All the positions in that ministry are already filled.

Luckily for me, I don't have to be a worship leader in my church to worship the LORD anywhere, anytime and in any place that I so choose.

So every now and then I am going to come on here and ask fellow believers to worship with me.

Would you like to worship with me now?

LORD, You alone are great in Heaven and in Earth
You fill the skies
You give us all things
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts
That you have given us life
And good things
And everything
LORD, we thank you most of all for our salvation
Because you alone are the hope of all the nations, LORD
And if you don't save us, then who will?
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised

Worship is important! As I see in the Bible, worship is a personal thing as well as a collective thing. In the church assembly it is shown with the Lord's Supper as the center-point in worship, with both individual praise in prayer and also collective singing hymns of thanksgiving for God's gift of eternal life in His beloved Son; and praise to the Lord Jesus for His sacrifice. I know nothing about leaders or stage performers. I cannot assume others are of the same mind, so I don't use the term "we".

There are several type gatherings of saints of God for different purposes, as Scripture shows ---some for Bible studies and ministry, some for a time of collective prayer; and also public preaching of the Gospel message. Certainly, the saints can always anywhere give thanks and praise to the Lord for all His mercy and grace as each saint walks about through the day. This is how I see the Bible example for worship.

I wish you were in my church (which happens to be Baptist). We have no worship ministry, among other things. I know all of the chords on a guitar, but I can't take the pain in my fingertips long enough to get through one service. I tried practicing daily, and all it did was give me calluses that peeled frequently and snagged on the strings. It's funny that I didn't inherit my father's thick skin (Literally thick. Temperamentally, he's as thin-skinned as they come).

I suggest you try a classical/nylon string guitar.

Fender has one that has similar string spacing and scale length to a standard steel string, but is classical in construction

Over time your callouses will stop peeling and you'll be able to play longer. Keep practicing and build up that strength, also build up the strength in your hands so you can play the barr chords adequately without resorting to using a capo all the time.

Indeed. It took 3 or 4 cycles of losing the callouses before they started to "stick" and become somewhat permanent.

I have had my students on both bass and acoustic guitar to spend several minutes every day strengthening their hands/fingers. What I did was have them grab a pair of glass Coke bottles (the curved shape is great for this) and squeeze. Watch a clock with a sweep second hand. At the top of the minute squeeze both bottles (one in each hand) as hard as you can. At the 15 second point, squeeze harder. The same at 30 seconds, 45 seconds, 50 seconds and 55 seconds. Release at 1 minute. (note: it is normal to not be able to just let go - the fingers may need to be lifted one at a time)

After a few days, move from just gripping around the bottle to squeezing it with your fingertips. (like you are trying to force your fingers INTO the glass)

Do that 2 or 3 times a day until a small muscle starts popping out between the ligaments on the underside of your forearm. That should give you the strength needed to make the chords sound clear on every note. (without any "thud" strings)

That's encouraging. I guess I gave up too soon. I always wondered why I had some really good calluses on my thumb and forefinger from drinking diet soft drinks (I'm not joking), but the guitar calluses peeled off. Apparently, I was more committed to my Diet Shasta.

I got a new classical/electric guitar last weekend. Been practicing all week. Maybe I can work up to an acoustic. My pastor is beginning to sound desperate.

What I did was have them grab a pair of glass Coke bottles (the curved shape is great for this) and squeeze.

Sounds perfect. I'll try it with a Bundaberg.
