The apostles prayed for non apostles (means sent ones) and Those people also spoke in tongues and we see in acts mention of other faith filled men of God doing mighty works who were NOT apostles .your reasoning has so many holes in it's a cup of hot air.
I have witnessed so many people being baptised in the holy spirit and speak in tongues .prophecy .have visions and dreams...seen devil's manifest and be cast out ,see people healed weekly...that I catagoricly know that you are speaking a load of rubbish founded purely on unbelief.
And now your promoting your unbelief and you seriously need to repent.

You will all be held to account for every word you speak.
As will I .
And I categorically state
In the name of Jesus that the promise of the holy spirit is for today.tongues prophesy knowledge wisdom visions dreams discerment if spirits healing...all for today. God did not abandon us after the first generation of believers died.

I am prepared to state that all with the Lord Jesus as my witness being fully held to account by the Lord Jesus as my witness.his word is true and he is faithful to it.
Repent of unbelief. Unbelief is Sin.

Did you repent after not being able to move that mountain ?

I am not a new Christian. I am well aware of 1 Corinthians 13, which is the love chapter of the Bible.
Tongues is a gift and not a commandment.

8 "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will." (1 Corinthians 12:8-11).

Anyone can be perfect through abiding in Christ and the good work He does through us and by following His Word (in the New Testament).

...
You are not a New Christian...but you did not Google what I asked that refers to the direct relationship of the gifts as coming into the maturity in Love.
If you know that anyone can be perfect...then you should also have known where the tongues gift fits into that growth of the body of Christ. Maturing in Love...as was said from the very beginning when you didn't agree.

Seriously?
How on earth would YOU know.
There are over 5000 languages on earth.. And I garantee at least 4900 sound like babble to you.
If a person were being led by the Holy Spirit; they would be speaking a language that an interpreter present would be able to interpret OR they would keep it to themselves.
To blurt out something that could not be interpreted or in the absence of an interpreter would be a sure sign that it wasn't being done under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
(1 Corinthians 14).

I did not need to Google 1 Corinthians 13 because I know what it says. There is nothing in 1 Corinthians 13 that says, if you speak in tongues in love, you will be perfect. It is merely saying that if we have the tongues of angels and have not love it profits us nothing. 1 Corinthians 13 is not saying everyone has tongues. Also, love is perfected by obedience to His Word (1 John 2:5) and not by the receiving of the gift (that is different for each member within the body of Christ).

Did you read 1 Corinthians 12:8-11? It clearly shows that speaking in tongues and interpreting them is just one of the many gifts amongst the body of Christ. It does not say that ALL Christians will receive this gift.

"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:4).

I believe if i was in situation when there would be atheist dying in front of me who was speaking german ( i never could learn this language i tried many years ) , then Holy Spirit would give me ability to speak german to preach gospel of salvation to him.

But i don't think that He would give me that gift for every day and any event i want .

I am saying there is nothing about speaking in tongues that makes the believer perfect in 1 Corinthians 13. 1 Corinthians 13 says If I speak with the tongues of angels and with the gift of prophecy and have not love, it profits me nothing. Yet, in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, we Iearn that speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues is just one of the many gifts given by the Spirit to the body of Christ.

Verse 4 makes it clear that there is one Spirit and yet a diversity of different gifts. Meaning, nobody has all the same gifts.

4 "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all." (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

It's all about building up the body in Love...So that we transform into the image of Christ.

If we do not grow up in love, the main... purpose...Then What good is the Gift that should lead us there....

If you do not learn to read ...what good is learning the Alphabet....when the purpose for learning the Alphabet is to read.

So tongues has its place to bring the word of God to everyone..so that they may grow up in all things...even Christ. @Jason0047

But this is not a gift for everyone (even back in the times of the early New Testament years). Please read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. You don't have to Google it. Just click on the passage in my post.

That wasn't our argument

How so? You were talking about being "perfect" before by way of tongues. Surely one can be perfect without speaking in an unknown tongue (along with an interpretation), right?

No it doesn't. Prophecies have ended. There are no new divine words from God until Jesus returns. The revelation known as the Bible forbids the adding of words to God's Holy Word, the Bible (See Revelation 22:18).

Note: Click on one of the links for Revelation 22:18 within my post so as to read this verse.

Because it all stem from your

I said,

"The Bible talks about perfection and speaking in tongues is not related to that issue whatsoever (that I am aware of)."~ Jason0047

So we are still back to the drawing board here.

Nowhere does listening to the prophecies of tongues relate to being perfect in the Bible. You need a verse that specifically tells us that listening to tongues along with an interpreter relates to us being perfect. So far, you have not produced such a verse.

And note this is the true Gift in order for one that hears God's word in their own language...therefore tongues brings the word of God to the hearer...and If hearer received it He can also be transformed by it... The End

You are not being clear here. Are you saying that everyone must have this gift?
Are you saying believers must listen to an interpreter from someone speaking in tongues in order to be perfect? If so, where in the BIble does it say this specifically?

The point was the purpose....or end result as stated in Corinthians. Agree or disagree conversation over...I'm not going to argue about things one should know by simply reading.

No, you never heard me say that....but the whole body benefits...for any God given gift should grow the whole body up

Edification of the body through speaking in tongues along with an interpreter was something that was once a part of the body of Christ at one time. But I do not believe it is a gift that is still given today because it would be contradictory for God to give us new words when He said there will be no more words added to God's divine Holy Word as stated in Revelation 22:18. There are no more prophecies. God's Word (the Bible) is our prophecy now. That is how we are edified currently. For they did not have Bibles back in the day. But we do. We do not need any new messages of prophecy anymore because we have the Bible.

You become immune from deadly snake bites and drinking poison?

Having enough faith is not mentioned as a condition of being able to speak in tongues. The only condition is that the Holy Spirit sovereignly wills it:

1 Cor 12:11 "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills."

1. Yes, if you believe, but only if you believe. If you are of little faith, you will die.

2. 1 Cor 12 shows the gifts of the Spirit, and you get only what the Spirit wills. But everything in Mark 16:17-18 are for ALL who believe, whether you act on them in faith or not. You will not see them without believing.
