Faith without works is dead.

We must put our faith into action by loving people - especially orphans and the homeless

James 1:27 New International Version (NIV)

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Matthew 25:35-40 New International Version (NIV)
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Hi KA, I agree with many things you posted here. I especially love that verse.

However, if you read the rest of 1 John Chapters 2 up to 4, the extent of our generosity goes only as far as our brothers and sisters in God and does not include the wicked.

Even Jesus prevented some people from hearing the Gospel -- the most generous gift withheld from some...He did not help everyone. Even some had to persuade Him to help them.

When Jesus rebuked Judas who was in turn, harshly criticizing Mary, for using a very expensive item on Jesus instead of selling it and giving it to the poor reflected this teaching.

The needs of our brothers and sisters goes first. And if we have to preach to other people or go on missions to other places, we must move on once we are seeing persection/rejection - Matthew 10:14, Matthew 10:23.

Those are two verses many missionaries often ignore much to their trouble that isn't necessary.

I agree, actions show love through compassion. Helping those in desperate need is needed, but I believe that Jesus intended for us to show love in action to all of His children. For me, I try to show it to those around me by helping as much as I can, giving of myself and my resources, and always remembering that even my brothers and sisters in Christ are fallible human beings, just as I am.

"Forgive us our sins AS WE forgive those who sin against us. " Matthew 6:12

"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."
Matthew 18:21-22

We are called to help the widow and orphan and poor, but let us never forget to show the love of Christ to those whom we encounter on a daily basis, for that is how we plant seeds for the kingdom of God.

Two people came into my life who showed me this "Christ-love", not giving up on me despite myself. This unselfish love not only changed my life, but saved my life. It is in remembrance of, and with gratitude for, those two people that I try to show this to others, all to God's glory, honor and praise.

PropheticTimes, I agree with you.

Jesus intended for us to show love in action to all of His children....even those who don't follow Him
