O wow, I saw this on the news. It was an incredibly dumb thing to say, but I didn't imagine it would be spun as Holocaust denial.

It's not a weapon used on battlefields...

It was dumb and insensitive but it did not strike me as malicious. He was just speaking without thinking. Can you think of a better mouthpiece for Trump?

He has since retracted and apologized. His initial response was confusing, yet, he says, it was not his intent to say what he is accused of saying. In any event, the media will rip him apart and "someone" will have to come to his rescue.

It's pretty obvious he got tongue-tied on some goofy talking points he was ordered to make. I'll point and laugh, but I'm not going to call him a Nazi. That would be stupid.

Yep.

It should have been clear as day what he meant once he gave the additional information, but the mainstream media's going to lengths to spin this into Spicer being a Holocaust denier, and sure enough quite a few Trump haters ate it up without question.

Why did you make one allegation in the Title of this thread and a different one in the Original Post?

He's not wrong, you know? Hitler really, really hated the thought of using chemical weapons on the battlefield, mostly because of his experiences during WWI, where such things were prevalent and he himself was injured by them.

His use of cyanide, exaust fumes and other means to kill people during the holocaust are a completely different beast.

This comment by spicer isn't wrong, but amazingly tone deaf.

Well, you know what they say, people are really themselves when they are anonymous. The thin paint of civilisation is just getting bleached away by the calls for less political correctness and "appearing tough and real".

Spicer did not deny the holocaust. He was making a clumsily phrased point about the use of chemical weopans on the battlefield. Hitler did indeed avoid their usage there having been a soldier in the trenches of WW1 where they were widely used.

The impression I got from this was of a complete lack of grace on the side of a Democrat leaning press. Spicer fumbles and they cannot wait to stick the knife in. Has American politics really become so partisan and antagonistic.
