If possible to stay on topic, any one can give their answer.

What transformation occurs when a believer recieves the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
How does if differ from the indwelling of the Spirit upon salvation?
Here is Bible verse as a example :

Acts: 19. 1. And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2. He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7. And all the men were about twelve.

Feel free to explain the Baptism of the Holy Spirit,I will refraine from commentary until later on.

I'd like to point out a couple things in the scripture posted.

(1) Paul asks these disciples: unto what then were ye baptized? They said: John's baptism.
(2) Paul says that is the baptism of repentance. Salvation?
(3) Paul THEN baptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus. What is this?
(4) Paul THEN laid hands on them and the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke in tongues, and prophesied.

:|

Where they saved in John's baptism? Or did it take Paul baptizing them in the name of Jesus? Why does this set of scripture not speak of a baptism of the Holy Spirit, yet we are speaking of it here.

The apostles receive the Holy Spirit in tongues of fire in the upper room. Jesus said that this would occur. In the upper room when Jesus appeared (without Thomas) He breathed on them and told them to receive the Holy Spirit. But they were never baptized to receive the Holy Spirit. And receiving the Holy Spirit they did not yet speak in tongues.

I'll leave all that as food for thought.....(don't you just grrr when I do this?)

We and I am speaking about me lol.. hear things and then just believe it. You know I was thinking about Peter when Christ asked who do they say I am. Peter answered and Jesus didnt say the holy Spirit told you.. no He said my Father told you. Jesus told them unless I go the Holy Spirit will not come.

Many years ago I went to this bible study where they would no and then ask me if I wanted the Holy Spirit. I keep saying no. One night I said yes. They never keep asking. So I sit in this chair they gather around. He reads some verses about the Holy Spirit like if you ask the Father... so on. Then asked me again do you I want the Holy Spirit. I say yes. He and they pray and then stop. He looks at me and say.. thats it. You got it!. Huh? I didnt feel anything. So I get up I go to sit down and BAM! It just flowed out..just came out. I still lol cant remember ever hearing them speak in tongues. Years later it never dawned on me that what happen to me was exactly like it happen to them. WOW

It is as Christ said.. you shall receive POWER after the Holy Spirit comes. As in the days of old the only diff is He NEVER leaves. We then read the word and seems they really TALKED and HE talked back to them. So your questions as of right now would seem one in the same. Jesus left.. the sweet sweet Holy Spirit came.

Not everyone receives tongues, but most do. It is great that you had such evidence early on. Some have to wait until they get the spirit of prophecy, or encouragement, of begin seeing miracles around them as a result of their prayers. But even this is only early evidence. The real test of transformation (which I am sure you have in your own life since then), is power to show the fruits of the Spirit in your own life, and power to help transform the Body of Christ and the world. It's hard to explain the feeling, but the Baptism of the Holy Spirit makes you WANT to do these things, like a hungry person whats to eat or a person who has not slept for days wants to sleep.

I like that. The "want" to do these things... sounds like (manifold) amazing grace to me (1 Peter 4:10). That's what many Christians don't quite yet realize that it's His grace that drives you to (want) to please Him in every area of faith in your life in Christ... in lieu of the law that says you (have) to.

No grrr,just a study.
Is the Baptism of the Holy Ghost a separate work of grace recieved by faith?
Is it necessary for a manifestion of Spirtual power ,such as a healing?
What is the primary difference between the indwelling of the Spirit upon repentance and accepting Christ, verses the addition of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

Acts: 8. 14. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15. Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16. (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Once again we see scripture as evidence that the Baptism is a separate work.
Phillip was a disciple so we know he did not use the Baptism of John, yet when caught away he Baptized the Ethiopian.
So as the verse states they were Baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, but Peter and John imparted the Holy Ghost.

I am not a theologian but I believe baptism of water and fire (Holy Spirit) are two separate things. I think the HS guides all believers but unless they received Him in actual fire baptism they won't walk in the spiritual gifts with evidence of tongues. We should all ask to receive the HS and then pray in tongues, I think that's the evidence of truly having Him because everyone who has been baptized by fire had evidence of tongues.

So true.

Be careful here.

30 Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they? 31 But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison.
1 Cor 12:30-31 (NET)

We should be eager for the greater gifts....yet not all speak in tongues? And Paul makes no bones about it. Just states the facts.

Further:

I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.
1 Cor 14:5 (NET)

Paul sees the value in tongues. But he would rather that you did not speak in tongues if you would prophesy. For the one who prophesies is GREATER than the one who speaks in tongues, unless.... It is about the edification of the Body, even more so than your personal edification (The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up... -- 1 Cor 14:4a (NET) )

1 Cor 14:20-25 is an important paragraph on the topic. Especially:

So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.
1 Cor 14:22 (NET)

Desiring tongues is wonderful. But keeping it in perspective is important. Understanding what it is for and what uses it has both personally and corporately is necessary. And understanding the "greater gifts" is tantamount.

Be blessed, Kawaii!!

Here Jesus told them to receive the Holy Ghost, therefore they did.

John 20:22
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
KJV

The above is the first recorded that I know of the manifestation of what Jesus said here;

John 14:16-17
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
KJV

When they received the Holy Ghost He was in them.

However, He also told them to wait for an event, the result being that that same Holy Ghost that is in them because they received the Holy Ghost.

That result would be that the same Holy Ghost was going to come upon them.

Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
KJV

Not in them cause He was already in them, but upon them.

The purpose for coming upon them was for POWER to be a WITNESS of Jesus.

Once He came upon them He did not stay upon them 24/7 as he was in them.

However, whenever they witnessed the Holy Spirit would come upon them again and would continue to come upon them whenever they witnessed.

Many examples of the Spirit coming upon through the Book of Acts.
Peter preaching, Peter & John at the gate Beautiful, etc.

He was always in them as He is in us.

When you are saved, your old adamic spirit was removed and replaced by the spirit of Christ. Instead of being member of the spiritual body of adam, you are now a member of the spiritual body of Christ. This is not the Holy Spirit.
When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you are inhabited with the Holy Spirit.
The spirit of Christ is not the same as the Holy Spirit.

As I read the BIBLE, thru and thru,
as YHWH permitted and opened SCRIPTURE to me as HE did to all HIS disciples in the nt who HE called and chose,
I noted the MANY SIGNS of true followers of Y'SHUA,
and in the OT the MANY SIGNS of
all those YHWH CALLS RIGHTEOUS and HOLY.

There are MANY SIGNS / OBSERVED EFFECTS and ACTIONS/ that are sure and true
both of believers and of fakers.

All thru HIS WORD TORAH , OT , PSALMS, PROPHETS and NT.
Especially Y'SHUA'S OWN WORDS.

Few care.

What is written is for all. If God said it it will have to happen. So if ANYONE asks the Father for the sweet sweet Holy Spirit HE will give it. They were told to wait.. not 12 but 120 right? All received. You just take what He said and believe.

I use to go to this bible study where they would ask me no and then if I wanted the Holy Spirit. I keep saying no.. but one night I said yes. I BELIEVE there is something awesome about blind faith..not knowing just taking what is said and believe.

I never new anything about this. So I sat in the chair the (the two were grand parents. Wife prayed 4+ hours a say) they read some verses. Then asked me again and I said yes. He prayed and then said "thats it you got it". This is how they walked. And you would not believe.. maybe you would.. lol.. all the WOW awesome things I seen from these two. They said..if we say anything that is not written dont believe us.

So I got up.. didnt feel any different and I go to sit down and BAM! It just came out. Then many years later after reading it so many times.. it hit me. What happen to me is exactly what happen to them in the world. They asked..they said yes.. and then prayed and they got it.

And it is SO easy to grieve Him by simply what we see hear and SAY. He is SO REAL! Like the 120 it is the same today.. they were saved 100%.. but like Christ said.. AFTER and then you shall receive power. This is for ALL period. Its not what we think or say..it is what He said. If you want it lack it ask and you WILL receive.

There's also literally thousands of examples out there, we all see every day, that are false.
Trying to describe this is nigh impossible. Possible, yes, but nigh impossible. (i.e. requires revelation and becoming like a little child in YHWH'S GRACE, abiding in Y'SHUA born again).

It is 'easier' to simply see, if you can find someone.
And to choose as one seeks YHWH'S KINGDOM.
Than it is to properly or accurately describe (as YHWH'S KINGDOM and LIFE is not subject to man's words, wisdom or knowledge , all 3 of which are opposed to YHWH.

Like the blind man healed - "I CAN SEE!" not knowing how.

And the dead man raised. No one knows how. (among men).

So if ANYONE asks the Father for the sweet sweet Holy Spirit HE will give it.
In reference to HIS ecclesia, true to HIM, faithful to HIM, born again of HIM, yes.

See numerous other of YHWH'S WORD where HE clearly shows who will NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM HIM -
and whose prayers HE WILL NOT EVEN HEAR.

When I devoured (read fervently RSV, read daily, even all night completely enamored with HIM and HIS WORD (completely in LOVE (FIRST LOVE) with JESUS AND FATHER YHWH) )
I simply prayed HIS WORD as I read it. Anything and everything GOOD I prayed for and HE answered.
Read Genesis and see HOW
everyone lived who served YHWH(God);
Read Deuteronomy
and see HOW THE NEW TESTAMENT IS IN DEUTERONOMY !!! (much or most of all Y'SHUA(JESUS) said is in Deuteronomy)

Read Psalms and see all the UPS and downs and joy and purity and truth of YHWH'S WORD and LIFE on earth !

Read Ephesians and pray for YHWH'S Plan to be accomplished in us today, as it was when they were faithful
and walking and LIVING IN UNION WITH Y'SHUA every day.

if He cannot hear our prayer How can How can He Guide us when we know not what to pray?
YHWH can hear our prayer,
and does,
UNLESS we "consider sin in our heart".

ie. if we are prayer selfishly ,
or as if
we can remain slaves of satan
and still hope to get YHWH'S salvation
or Y'SHUA'S blessing then
we are deceived and the truth is not in us.

Absolutely right, Blade... We don't have to sit back and wait for the promise as the Church in the book of Acts did. Today, the promise is already on the table for (whosoever) believes. It's a done deal as with all of God's promises by the finished works of Jesus Christ on the cross.

As you stated, "You just take what He said and believe."

We are living in the Church Age until He returns.
All that we ever need want or ask for Has been given in his Word.

A while back someone disagreed with me on God's Word being a closed book.
They may have misunderstood what I was saying,my point is we do not have revelation that has not been given in The Word all ready.
You cannot add or take away from the Truth or the finished work is void.
That's not saying the Holy Spirit will not guide your knowlage of understanding the Word.
This is very important to understand, because false prophets bring a new gospel at times and miss lead people from the Truth.
This was the case in my debate with the Mormons.
