Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Matthew 10: 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

The Word is clear when it comes to all lying. Who do you want to follow, men or Jesus?

Matthew 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Every man is given a cross to bear. Lying does not "save" anyone's life. I guarantee you you that both the liar and the supposedly "saved" victim will both die! Adding a few more earthly years to one's life down here is not "saving a man's life"! Choose your shepherd and follow him!

Lying to save someone's life? It would depend on the circumstances. If there was an SS soldier asking if I knew where any Jews were (to use the classic example), I would say I didn't whether I did or not.

As far as lying to make someone feel good: I know I hate it when people lie to me becaues they think it's what I want to hear, and I really feel uncomfortable doing that to other people. I certainly don't want to be brutal, but lying to raise someone's spirits seems fake and I think it makes my relationship with the other person rather superficial.
