I'm wondering the same thing. He also recently
tweeted "If there were ever a species for whom sex hurt, it surely went extinct long ago," which is just wrong in so many ways. For example, while most birds don't have external genitalia, male waterfowl have evolved
tersanz that are shaped in a counter-clockwise coil and measure 0.59 to 1.57 inches long. They seem to have evolved them to rape female waterfowl, who have in turn evolved convoluted vaginal structures called dead end sacs and clockwise coils that make rape more difficult for the males. (So if creationism is true, God designed rape birds.) Plus there's something called
traumatic insemination, which isn't pleasant. And Neil Degrasse Tyson should try being a male mantis, whose mates often eat them.
Yesterday, he
tweeted "If you have a gene for celibacy, you didn't inherit it." He's assuming many termites, bees, and wasps aren't reading his twitter. You actually
can inherit a gene for celibacy if it's adaptive in relatives.
