Ok, i'm taking this ethnic diversity class, and the professor is not a christian.  He doesn't believe in guilt, and thinks that we should be concerned only in obtaining the most pleasure.  He said himself that he is not considerate of others and only does what he wants to.  His assignment this week was to go out and have "immense pleasure" and then write a one-page paper about it.  i just don't know where to start.  :help:

Today at 09:42 AM the outlaw said this in Post #2

As Christians, we delight in praising and worshipping our God. While I won't guarantee an A on the paper, I'd love to see the look on your professor's face when he read your paper. ; )

that's an awesome idea!  why didn't i think of that

Thank you!

Yeh - that is a cool idea - God is well pleased with you and He is smiling at you and takes delight in you - so naturally we are to take delight in him and hanging out with fellow christians and going church and living - that is what gives you immense please!!!

Mmmmm.... that teacher has given you a very dangerous asignment which God can use to give a dangerous response!!!!

Wow!!!  What a great assignment for you to be a good witness.  I'm so excited for you, I wish I had this assignment!  You don't have to be judgmental or condemning, but you can still write a very powerful paper based on your convictions.  Here are a few verses that might help you (there are lots more...):

Psalms 111:2 "Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them."
Proverbs 21:17 "He who loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich."
Isaiah 58:13-14 "...if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord's holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob."

Just remember to be kind, explain why you can't live for your own pleasure in life.  You most likely won't win over your teacher, but you will be standing strong in your faith and that's more important than a good grade.  Realize going into this that you are risking getting a lower grade.  I had the same happen to me in my philosophy class a few years ago.  We were supposed to write a paper about how miracles aren't possible.  Guess what I did?  I wrote a paper about how miracles are possible.  He lowered my entire class grade from an A to a B because of it, but I don't care.  It's his problem, not mine.

Well, if pleasure is purely subjective, then you can do anything you want that you think is pleasurable. You can go watch a staring contest in Muskogee Oklahoma if you want to.
This guy is an existentialist punk who probably thinks Nietzsche and Sartre are cool.
So go have fun and write about it. If he wants to harass you about what you consider fun, who is he to tell you what fun is?
Ok, to be a little more serious, go have what you think is immense pleasure. Then ask, Why was this pleasurable to me? Why did I enjoy it? What was pleasurable about it? Stuff like that. This could almost be an assignment on aesthetics.

ok, i finished my paper, and i think you guys would be proud of me. i think what the professor was getting at was that religion and being a christian is something that only makes you feel guilty for the things that you do. so, some of the main points of my paper was the freedom of being in God's company, and that being a christian isn't all guilt, it's freedom and joy in being forgiven.

bless you all for your help!
