Bernie, of course, is Bernie Sanders, the senator from Vermont whose Democratic presidential campaign has brought more than 100,000 people to his rallies in recent weeks — making him the biggest draw on the campaign trail this year. The huge crowds are building via social media, word of mouth and promotion by like-minded local groups in each city that Sanders visits, without any paid advertising by the campaign.

For a comparison:

But it is drawing energy and attention away from Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose largest crowd to date was 5,500, according to her campaign. And it is creating a network of small-scale donors and volunteers that could provide Sanders with the resources he will need to compete with Clinton in the weeks and months ahead.

Roughly 28,000 showed up to see Sanders on Sunday in Portland, Ore., the largest crowd of the 2016 presidential campaign cycle. He drew 15,000 in Seattle on Saturday. Approximately 11,000 were in Phoenix recently; 10,000 in Madison, Wis.; 8,000 in Dallas; and 4,500 in New Orleans.

People are starting to "Feel the Bern!"

No one finds it interesting that Bernie is doing better than just about everyone else when it comes to bringing people together? You might not like him but no one can deny his popularity with The People.

It still amazes me how little we hear about 'all' of his grassroots support from the main stream media. Most of what I hear about Bernie's campaign is through second hand social media.

Of course the news outlets of the MSM aren't going to talk about how he's brought over 100,000 people together over the past couple weeks using essentially free advertising via social media. They're spending millions and can't get people to agree on what one candidate is even saying. Bernie just has to speak the truth and people will listen.

I absolutely love what is happening. The voice of The People will be heard!

Well, I am actually really excited to see him run. While I cannot agree with much of his policies. A cursory over view of what he supports indicates to me that he is nuanced in his views and practical in his governance. Quite frankly, I feel that free trade agreements have gutted manufacturing in the US, which is one of the reasons why the middle class is in such pain. Bernie is opposed to these agreements. Japan systemically destroying our industries in the past, due to a favored trade agreement with them is a lesson I feel we have not learned.

If the news in this country wasn't controlled by just a few major corporations you might find out that over just three days Sanders has spoken to over 70,000 people! Not to mention the 100,000 who attended the house parties last week. If that's not "newsworthy" I can't imagine what is.

The Portland Oregon meeting was pretty crazy. I bet Hillary's shaking in her boots, but that's her fault for just having luncheons that cost $2500 a head. She's pandering to the rich.

Dems don't like Hillary. They didn't like her in '08 and they don't like her now. If she's the nom, the GOP will likely win.
This is true. I do think however that people are more turned off by the name than anything else. Being a Clinton is going to be Hillary's greatest hurdle this election. The same can be said about Jeb. It won't be easy winning over a nation that still has the bad taste of Bush in their mouths.

I disagree that the GOP will win this election though. Call it wishful thinking, I believe (and hope) that if it isn't Hillary, it will be Bernie who is elected president.

It's gotta be concerning to all parties to see someone gain so much popularity by word of mouth. I think it's that Bernie, for the most part, is seen as the voice of the people. He isn't the typical D.C. politician in any way. He's been ahead of the issues most care about since before it was cool to do so and he's doing it all with grass-roots financial support. If he takes the nomination, it would be a huge turning point in American politics.

Yeah, and he's been saying the same things for decades. That proves he stands for what he believes in. I think social media could give him a chance to win the nomination without the need for huge donations. It would be a game changer for sure.

IMO, Hilary's main issue is she is viewed as cold and non trustworthy by many in her own party and this is the main reason an unknown like Obama beat her in 08.

This election is teed up for a GOP candidate to win, but it must be a candidate that is able to gather momentum and appeal to the moderate voters. This means, whoever wins the republican nomination, will need to move towards the middle once they have they have that in hand.

Middle is another word for status quo. I think Americans are sick of the status quo of the establishment. That's why fringe candidates like Bernie and Trump are doing so well.

Not really, moderate voters are who elect presidents and if you don't appeal to enough of these types, you can't win.

Obama won because of this in both 08 and 12.

He is against Keystone, too, which is another big one to me! I don't agree with him on everything, either, but I do agree with him on enough I am voting for him :)
Bernie for Main Street
Hillary for Wall Street

He couldn't even stand up to a couple of crashers at a rally.
Color me, unimpressed.
If you know Bernie at all he's not known for backing down from a fight but showing discretion is a quality I want In a president.
