No, and for at least two reasons: 1) doing so would be acknowledging that he is who/what the Catholics claim he is; 2) kissing his ring/hand is part and parcel with receiving his blessing. I do not acknowledge that he is who/what the Catholics claim he is, and I will not receive the blessing from anyone that is not Orthodox (nothing personal against anyone, but I became Orthodox for a reason, and it wasn't because they have prettier decoration). Thus I will not kiss his ring.

Your lot are being blatantly obnoxious and presumptuous about what the Church does.
About the only thing protestants seem to be good at is antagonizing others. That's really what it comes down to, especially on threads such as this, a blatant bait thread I might add.
So far, it seems to be working :D

Well, SwordFall, for the most part I agree. However, as you are demonstrating, Protestants also take heat from Catholics. You shouldn't make assumptions about all Protestants. Most Lutherans don't even consider themselves Protestants, but that's another discussion. I do not believe the pope is the antichrist or that the RCC is a great evil, or that you all worship Mary. I do not believe kissing the pope's ring is idolatry, and I don't believe Catholics worship the crucifix.

However, as I am not RC, I do have my issues with the Church, obviously, or I'd be Catholic, and one of the issues I have is things like the Infant of Prague. It's clear idolatry. That statue isn't Jesus, and it doesn't have magical powers because of God. The idea that is heals and affects weather is such a problem. Calling it a spirit bridge doesn't help matters.

Spirit bridges are a theological subject of many things, including even exorcism.
It's material that goes all the way back to old Judaism.

Telling me it "doesn't help" doesn't help you at all. It just shows that you have no education on these things, proclaiming time and time again a shallow description of something as idolatrous.

Also to note, making claims that the Church doesn't know what idolatry is, or blatantly imposes it upon her practices- that's really where the aggravation lies.
It's nothing more then bogus, unfounded conviction.

If the Pope offered the privilege of kissing his ring, would you?
If that's the custom, yeah. I've been given grief because we of Korean ancestry customarily bow to each other in greeting. Christian brethren have told me that "bowing down" to anyone else s a pagan custom and Christians shouldn't do it. But amongst Koreans, not "bowing down" as a show of respect is boorish and simply denotes bad manners and possibly a problem with your upbringing. So yeah, if the customary respect paid a pope is to kiss his ring, then I'll kiss the ring. Costs me nothing, and I'd prefer not to be considered a lout.

Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ecumenical Patriarch (Greek: Η Αυτού Θειοτάτη Παναγιότης, ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, Νέας Ρώμης και Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης, I Aftoú Theiotáti Panagiótis, o Archiepískopos Konsantinoupóleos, Néas Rómis kai Oikoumenikós Patriárchis, "His Most Divine All-Holiness the Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch") is the Archbishop of Constantinople–New Rome and ranks as primus inter pares (first among equals) in the Eastern Orthodox communion.

The Ecumenical Patriarch has been historically known as the Greek Patriarch of Constantinople, as distinct from the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople and the Crusader Latin Patriarch of Constantinople. Historically, within the five ecumenical sees of Pentarchy, the patriarch is regarded as the successor of Saint Andrew, the Apostle. The current holder of the office is Bartholomew I, the 270th holder of the title.[1].................................

The Infant of Prague is a RC statue of the "infant Jesus" that is believed to hold healing powers and can have an affect on the weather. It's been highly esteemed by several popes in the past. Catholics go and pray to it for healing. To deny this is to lie, which is something you're falsely accusing me of.

Hi Mike, I don't think you understand Catholicism very well. Catholics do not believe that statues have powers or affect weather. Catholics do not pray to statues.

The statue is an icon, an instrument of prayer to God.

I don't think kissing a ring is idolatry. Never said that. Words in my mouth. Never said you worship the crucifix. Words in my mouth.

Perhaps it is you that does not understand Roman Catholicism. How do you become an expert on that Denomination? Just curious....

If protocol demanded it, I would. If I had the choice, I would probably choose not to do so. It has nothing to do with this "idolatry" discussion that has occurred. He is a head of state and a bishop of special significance, so the office alone deserves respect (as does the man, one would hope). But since I am a non-Catholic, kissing his ring would communicate something about me - and my relationship to the Pope - that is incorrect. Thus, out of respect for the gesture, my own beliefs, and the beliefs of others, I would prefer not to do so.
